If it's only been there a day, then it's probably just really irritated
If it's been there for more than a week, it may be something similar to pink eye.
If it's been there for a month, it's blurry, and it hurts...I'd probably ask a doctor. Might be a foreign object (fiber-glass can put pink spots on your eyes if you don't wear protective goggles).
It's unlikely you would go "completely blind". That only happens due to natural occurrences or extreme damage, such as a slice. There are many other ways, but it's not something to worry about.

Try some "eye wash" to remove foreign objects, dirt, and moisturize the whole eye.

hurts when i look left though, might be from a combination of cider, wanking and screen displays etc

My eyes have gone all red and veiny before...but the only thing I could put it down to was sleeping in excessive amounts of eye makeup...

Remember to take yours off next time :P

Do you mean the 'floaters' that seem to swim around? I understand that they are bits of cells in the 'humours' entering your field of vision, and perfectly normal....

Blood Shot Eyes Treatment

blood shot eyes picture

BLOOD SHOT EYES are caused by stress to the surface of your eyeball. Causes are many, from allergies, smoky parties, and chlorine in pools, to contact lenses.
But here's some Blood Shot Eye Treatments you can try:

* Ice packs applied until numb over the closed eye help shrink the bulging blood vessels. Alternately, for tired eyes, try warm compresses for up to 15 minutes.
* After petting your little animal pets wash your hands right away. Pet fur and saliva are common irritants to the eye.
* If your eyes feel dry and stinging, try artificial tears.
* If you're wearing contact lenses, you may need to wear your glasses for a couple of days to rest your eye surface. If the irritation starts again after the holiday then you may need to enzymatically clean your contacts or replace them - over time protein films and micro-scratches occur.

If all else fails let your eye doctor take a peek.

punch yourself in the nose and then it will take the focus away from your eye. especially if you break it ;)
