Hello guys, i really need some help here...

I am on DSL (1Mb) and every time i try to download a torrent the speed is way too slow.

When i say slow i mean 0-3 or 5 KB/s. But every time i download a regular download from any site the speed is 90KB/s at least!

I use bitlord or bitornado. I always end up uploading at least 8 times more of than i downloaded, since i upload with a speed of 18-20 when i limit it to 20!

Do you have any suggestions? i would really apreciate it.

PS: i've never tried to download from a private site

try limiting your upload speed to 12-15KB
forward your listening ports if behind a router

sorry guess i didn't mention that, i'm not behind a router and i disable my firewall but absolutely no difference

I have the same problem. I get real slow download speeds for BT like 2-5 kb/s and i am also not behind a router or a firewall. My max upload speed is 12 kb/s but i limited it to 8 kb/s. I tried different BT clients and different torrents but all give me the same results.

torrentit is the best!
But very strict with ratios and it is not open for signups anymore...
Wish I had an invitation for it too...

Maybe your problem is that you are trying to get something that is old that has no seeders.

what client are u using ?
what colour light do u get (green or yellow or blue ?)
whats the total speed of the torrent ?
change your port in your client from 6881 to something else say 9999 !!
forward that port in your firewall; tcp and udp
turn off windows firewall (if your using windoze!)
give the torrent time maybe even an hour to get to top speed

mick

I'm using azureus.
Its a green smile!
My total speed was dunno somewhere around 20..
The ports have been changed to something ealse.
I have disabled the windows firewall.
Still slow...
I tried sites like pisexy and filelist----> speed improvement but not quit high around 25-30 kb/s dunno if i have to be satisfy with this speed when i'm on an 1Mbit ADSL

Azureus never really worked out too well for me (even with the green smile), I use bittornado. Dunno why, maybe I'm just retarded.

If your speed improved then it's likely the torrents you are trying to grab, install bittornado, go to pisexy and try downloading "Nero 7 Premium" to test your speed, leave the torrent open for at least an hour.

ps, 25-30 is nowhere near the speed you should be getting, 90+ is more like it.;)

Btw i'm not sure 'bout it but....

Does it matter the fact that i live in cyprus?
I mean the distance between me and the server/tracker or whenever i download the file from?

ps: because you may not know cyprus is in mediterranean sea just below turkey and a few miles west of Iraq; just to help you with the distance thing..

lol

u do realize that 1Mb dsl means max 125KB/s? 1mb is 1 megabit, which is 125 kilobytes. the max u can possibly get is 125kb/s.

dsl sucks balls. my cable is 4Mb or 500KB/s. but i usually get higher than 500kb/s down on private bt sites

my point is, dsl is just natually slow. the speeds ur getting are pretty bad, but u can't expect too much out of a dsl connection. get cable. it's only $30ish more

you changed the listening port to 16881 instead of 6881? some ISPs block 6881

lol mate, the distance between you and the tracker won't affect your speed, only the distance between you and the telephone exchange you're connected to will have an affect on your speed.
Yep, I know where Cyprus is.:D
You on the North or South of the island?(my guess is South)

@abu_has_the_power, a 1mb line in Cyprus is probably one of the best you can get.;)

unfortunately dodgy is right!

the prices are heavy here unlike usa or other countries!

However if my dad allow me i'll get a 10mbit cable connection shared with my uncle next door. But i really doubt it though... :(

Btw cyprus is so small that nomatter where you are the distance between you and your isp is never big :D

or u can rig ur house with optic wire or w/e it's called, and pay a few grand a month for speeds that peak @ a few gigs/sec.
