Was shopping, and when I was done I couldn't be arsed to walk aaaaall the way home, so I took the bus.

And on the bus I got bored, so I picked up this mag I bought, and started reading it.

Prob was that I got so interested in what I was reading I forgot to get off at the right stop.

Didn't notice when I passed it, only noticed I'd screwed up when the driver went on the PA system and told some blind person where we were. So I got off the bus there and took aim at some far away bridge that looked familiar, kinda'.

Then, after the bus had gone, I realised where I was.

A fooking scary place, going by the word on t'street, so to speak. One of those places where you don't wanna' be after dark on account of junkies and gangs of kids beating people up and so forth, and naturally it was getting dark. But there was nothing to do but walk, 'cos the bus was gone and standing still didn't seem like a good idea

So I walk and walk, not even knowing if I'm going the right way.

Then, after a while, it occurs to me that the people I pass on the way to that bridge avoid looking at me. When I pass one group, a dad and two kids, the dad puts his arms around their shoulders and sort of guides them to the other side of the street so there's some distance between us as I pass them.

I dunno' what all of that was about, maybe I looked like one of them junkies, tho' I doubt that, or maybe it was 'cos I was the only white person there (might have thought I was out to bash immigrants, or somesuch).

Was a weird experience anyhow :dabs:

And yeah, obviously I did get home, turned out I was going in the right direction.

You should have told him :smilie4:

The point of this thread is that I went in thinking I was trouble, only to find out that everyone else seemed afraid of me.

It is a rough place, that much is, as far as I know, true. Which in itself has nothing to do with the colour of those that live there.

I looked out of place, so people feared me, I reckon.

I'm not sure why I, alone as I was, could frighten them so.

Most of the dicks who are out to beat people, be they skinheads/nazis/racists (anything but unheard of, here, which is why I made that connection, btw) or something else, run in packs (possibly 'cos they need to pool their IQ in order to walk straight).

In any case, it felt odd, having people seem frightened of me like that.

I was reading the top post and it made me realise, when I'm out with my son and someone walks past, I always usher him away from the path I think another person will take 'cause kids never look where they're going.

A small person can get hurt walking into a big person, maybe the Dad was just looking after his boy rather than being a bit scurred. Don't know if that makes a difference to what you thought.

Glad you got home :01:

Hi sons weren't that small, one was prolly at least thirteen, and the other not much younger. And it definitely wasn't the impression I got, looked more to me as if he was trying to protect them. But maybe.

I really did think I was trouble there for a bit, tho' after having passed through there myself now, I can't say I'm impressed with the scariness. Maybe it's worse in the weekends or something.

Me Dad was forever telling me that if I'm in a spot like that, to walk with my chest puffed out, looking dead ahead, eyes bulging and fists clenched by my sides - as if I'm going somewhere to beat the shit out of someone. That way, apparently, the would-be muggers will leave you alone and beat up an old lady or something.

Never actually tested that theory, however :ermm:

You might come off looking as you need to use the toilet, possibly, if you do that

Maybe bringing an old lady with you, to use as a decoy, like, might be better.

Crap, was hoping no one would make that connection. She does seem all happy to see me, but that might be some sort of defensive rection to hide the fear :dabs:

Might be time to get rid of my moustache :dabs: never noticed any of these reactions before I let it grow.

I had to grow one for a bet last year. Everyone in the footie team had to grow a full moustache or do a forfeit.

Duno about a dirty scrubber, but I looked like a twat.

Oh yes I do :01:

Was verging on some fu-manchu thing, until I trimmed it. Annoyed the feck out of some people :D

Funny thing is that it's as blond as the rest of my hair was when I was little, and going white on the sides, but coarser than the hair on my head.

It's an awesome awesome moustache.
