View Full Version : No Work For 8 Weeks........

:01:

but much pain.:(

Had surgery yesterday and got a new ACL.

My surgeon told me before that I had to go under 'cause bone can't be numbed. While waiting before surgery, my anesthesiologist told me I didn't and it pissed my surgeon off. I got an epidural and watched the whole operation on a monitor.

The surgeon played music from her Ipod while operating. She also removed old scar tissue from my medial meniscus.

It was interesting not being able to feel my leg but seeing the doctors holding it up. :dead weight:

In recovery I started getting a headache and then I yacked. I told them I felt nauseous and the I leaned over the side of the bed and hurled. They then gave me a kinda of throw-up bowl and I let the rest go.

Because I got an epidural I had to wait for HOURS AND HOURS before they let me even stand up. My operation started at 8 am and only took about 2 hours, yet I couldn't stand up until about 2:30 pm.

I end up having to piss in a long cup. Just drop my johnson in and let it go.

I was "pissed" 'cause the second time I had to piss I demonstrated to the nurse that I could move my right leg just fine and could use the crutches to hit the head. Damn nurse still had me pissing in a cup.

They did say it was odd 'cause most people have a hard time pissing after an epidural and need a cathoder to get the urine out. (they called today to check up on me and thought it odd I was only on my second pain pill)

I do have a nice set-up perfect for the cripple like myself.

I brought my futon downstairs which sits in front of the big screen

moved my little refrigerator (and put the microwave on top) to the left of the futon. Plastic forks, spoons, and knives are right there also. Refrigerator has cold drinks and quick microwave food, and leftovers.
Xbox (with about 90 titles plus emulated games in it) within arm's reach.
laptop on coffee table (that I'm typing on now)
telephone and alarm clock on end table to my left.
dumbells under the futon.
gun underneath the left end table (has a hollow inside)

I normally would hate being off work so long but in this case, there's nothing I can do about it.

Sorry about the pain.

Watching people operate on you can be fun, in a scary sort of way. Been there, and have seen the inside of someone's heart during an examination, once. Awesome, but disconcerting.

Six weeks can be a long time. If you heal up quickly then maybe you can get a bit of fun in, like a trip or something. Good luck, fingers crossed, and all that :)

Sweet setup, with the hardware et al.

Gun + painkillers = hawt :naughty:

whats ACL.
Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

I haven't had one for at least 8 or more years until today.

My right leg still doesn't have one.

I tore them playing basketball.

Recently though 'cause of old an cartilage tear (about 7 years ago) my knee has become unstable and doctors thought it best I get a new ACL.

My surgeon from 7 years ago though it odd I was still playing basketball.

Well that will stay put unless needed...you know "just in case".

Since I am immobile, I'm hardly in a position to "kick" someone's ass. Instead I can just point and shoot.

We have rules regarding travel though. If I take a trip and my job finds out I would be fired.

I watched my arthroscopic surgery on the same knee 7 years ago. On this go 'round I even saw the blood spatter a bit (I pulled the vailed sheet down a bit when they started).

That sucks, if you've got time off to recover, shouldn't you be allowed to recover where you wanted? Suppose it's to guard against people faking injuries or disease to take a trip, but still.

I watched my arthroscopic surgery on the same knee 7 years ago. On this go 'round I even saw the blood spatter a bit (I pulled the vailed sheet down a bit when they started). That's cool. I always find not being in control is a problem, but as long as they remember that you are there and awake, it's ok.

Did she tell you about what she was doing while she did it, so you could follow it step by step, or was it obvious anyway?

She did talk to me step...almost step by step. I made a big stink about going under and was just elated I didn't have to.

Because of my company's good policies on time off with full pay they definitely don't want folks fucking off on a cruise ship.

Snee

When my foot got messed up, I got three weeks off with full pay, without any restrictions on where I spent those weeks.

But it's a different thing here. Our system has more of a socialist/liberal inkling than yours and our unions are different, so it's different what duties corporations have to their employees.

And we do pay more taxes, a lot more, I think.

Being able to go to the park with family whenever you want (and their schedules permit) and lots of small things like that, can't be bad, anyway, and surely the company can't mess with you about that.

I might have gone online chatting about my injuries, if I'd been doing the forum-thing back in those days. Better than staring at the ceiling.

Wasn't supposed to walk, for a couple of weeks, and there isn't that much to do otherwise. (when everyone else is working and whatnot.)

It's been pimped by MTV, they got rid of his scars and gave him brand new stitching, some fancyarse koni ligaments, and a subwoofer in the trunk.

Thanks. Actually on the healing side, I can speed the rehab by sticking to a weight lifting schedule (when I'm able of course) and strengthen my quads. I also did this beforehand sorta like a pre-hab.

I also gained weight beforehand 'cause I tend not to eat alot when I'm "sick". Even today, wifey made me a coupla hamburgers, some French fries, and a salad and I barely touched it.

I did my pseudo-Atkins diet as a test before, to see if I could burn off excess weight quickly. I lost about 18 pounds then turned around and gained it back +6. I'm now 206. The weight will also help if I catch infection.

A friend of mine used to be chubby when I younger and then he got sick. He lost so much weight that to this day he's actually skinny.

I planned my surgery around this time 'cause between January and February is when we get our worst snow here. When I tried to schedule my surgery back in November, they tried to give me December 8. I said I wanted Jan. and they said they don't schedule that far in advance and I'd have to call back.

When I called in December, she said that she literally just got the scheduling for January in her hands and I got the date I wanted.:D

They used bioscrews where the material is absorbed by my body. My bone cells grow around the screws leaving basically bone screws. I asked her about those at my pre-op. They were going to use titanium.

I'm past an Even Steven, Blight.

I took a V-day the day before my surgery and still didn't get my haircut.

I'm starting to look like a black Hungry Jack right now.

Besides that, this isn't the first time I've been off work for over a week and had to stay home.

Anyway, I've got food, video games, unlimited movies, sports on TV, and still can get head.

I have a slightly longer road to travel 'cause even after my 6 weeks, I'll still be on crutches and going to desk job.

You should set up a camera and do one of those time lapse movies of your hair growing back.

Now if 6 weeks seems like an eternity to be couped up, just pretend at the end of six weeks you will die. That will make the time fly.

If you think six weeks is a short time, try holding your breath for six weeks only breathing with intermittent gasps.

I'm sure this is a very helpful post.

Well I'm right downstairs in the basement. They come down and visit me in my cell from time to time. I actually keep my little girl on my right side so she doesn't play around and undo my surgery.

The adjustment for wifey is that I can't dig in her guts like she wants me to, I don't eat with the family at the table (sometimes they spare a moment from their busy lives to come eat with me however), and wifey has to take out the trash and recyclables.:shifty:

I think I'm going to switch off of that and watch Twisted though.

I also forgot that every Saturday night, Starz and HBO show a new movie so I've tivoed them for the next coupla weeks. Good HD viewin'.

Cursed, Man Of The House, Miss Congeniality 2 are coming on soon.

I always wanted to see Cursed.

Got my post-op tomorrow morning and unnecessarily wifey took off work to take me in.

I can drive myself.:ermm:

She just got a new job in the phone company this week and usually it's not good to take off right in the beginning like that.

I think she's on her 4th job and so am I. In the phone company one tend's to move around alot changing occupations.

The only way I'll stop working in DC is if I can get suburban Maryland. Since I've started with the phone company well over a decade ago, I have never worked closer than 25 miles from home. Drives have always been at least 45 minutes on a good day.

I think the Washington Metro area has the second worst traffic in the nation behind Los Angeles.

...and it's getting fucking worse.

That's why a new Woodrow Wilson Bridge (http://www.wilsonbridge.com/)is being built and it will coincide with the National Harbor (http://www.nationalharbor.com/).

The National Harbor is going to fuck my property taxes (already has actually) when it's finished. It's literally 10 minutes from my door.

Little small ass rinky dink houses are gonna be worth more than much bigger ones with twice the land in areas just 20 miles away.

What's funny is that it's just

an Igloo
pump and hose
and a blister wrap :dabs:

Yet it's worth about $150.:O

There are also wraps for the ankle and elbow that you can buy at $60 a pop.:ermm:

If I hurt my ankle I might just make do with the knee wrap.

I like it too 'cause you pump in the ice water and as it gets warm later just more water in.
It takes alot before it fills to capacity.

You also can unhook with the pack on.

I swear I am going to get so buffed up this spring. I'm going on a coupla cruises, Vegas, and maybe somore this year.

Dunno.

Tell me, are the matches I'm watching truncated or something.

It's 30 minutes long. IRB Series Seven Rugby.

One thing I do hate (which backfired on Uruguay) is that once they were up they took there time with kick-offs and even once the ref looked like he was cheating for them on a substitution where he waiting 'till a Uruguay player that was being replaced got ALL THE WAY off the field before starting the action back up.

It's funny how people talk about the starts and stops of basketball and football but I think it's really about the amount of time of those stops.

Sweet weekend.

Not only was this Superbowl decent (had a houseful over) but the day before I ate at one of my favorite restaurants, Carabba's, and afterwards me and wifey got tore up on liquor while watching Napoleon Dynamite and then Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle.

After that (among other things) we went to sleep at about 6am.:pinch:

Wifey couldn't stop laughing at me 'cause during Napoleon Dynamite, the title character was testing milk.(we were totally fucked up during this movie)

I said, "Wtf is that yellow milk crap in the middle that he's drinking?"

Wifey said, "That's buttermilk."

I said, "Wtf is buttermilk? I remember my great grandmother drinking it but never knew what buttermilk actually was."

She said look it up on Dictionary.

I looked it up and read the definition OUT LOUD while totally fucked up off the apple....

I said, "The sour liquor that memains after butterfut has been memoved from whole milt or cream by churnin'."

Wifey fucking lost it telling me I was fucked up with tears running.
I was gettin' all defensive, tellin' her she was just as drunk as me then I burst out laughing too.

It actually read....
"The sour liquid that remains after the butterfat has been removed from whole milk or cream by churning."

I was fuuuuucked up. RIF

I like bad endings from time to time.

Another brat movie that I enjoyed. Hope to see more.

More benevolent too, trying to fit in better, but definitely more mental.

The extra two weeks is to do with that, I reckon.

FUCKING SCHWEET!!!

I just found out I have Universal HD!!

I was searching for the synopses of the next BSG episodes and then it had that it coming another channel other than Sc-Fi. It said UHD.

It was never announced that we were getting that channel.

It shows repeats of BSG and Monk so I guess I'll be waiting for the HD channel to catch-up and I'll forget watching the new ones on Sci-Fi (Monk is too far behind).

They also show one my favorite TV shows, THE EQUALIZER. It looks like a new repeat every 2 days.

FUCKING SCHWEET!!

Funny enough it has Knight Rider & Quantum Leap too.

BULLSHIT!!!!!

The Wizards beat Philly, convincingly. However....

They were playing New Orleans/Oklahoma City tonight and were up by 19 points at the half.

The Wiz started fucking up and with 2 min left in the game were down by 3.

With 10 seconds left and down by 1, Gilbert Arenas takes a shot and misses. There's a scramble for the ball, Antawn Jamison comes up with it and shoots a great jumper leaving .5 seconds left.

DAGGER!!!

no.

N.O. calls timeout and get to take the ball out at half-court.

They pass in and....West scores at the buzzer.

How the fuck did he have time to get the ball out his hand in .5 seconds?

I'll tell you.

This was N.O.'s home court and the clock operator didn't the clock when he touched the ball.

BULLSHIT!!!!

Damn clock was stuck on .5 while he had the ball.

West did break away from the pack nicely for the shot though. He was WIDE open and had a clear shot.

What a heartbreaker. That would been have the Wizards' sixth game in a row.:(

It's a damn shame....

I've been off all this time, have a modded Xbox with 190GB of games and I've played it all of 3 times since I've been off.:(

I think it has to do with the fact that when playing a video game, you can't do anything else

I can write, check email (and be on here), and watch TV while recording music.

Pause and mute teh bestest!! I did used to play games while recording but it threw me off some. I guess it's mind numbing for creativity.

I have played shit all of God Of War and barely played GTA San Andreas.WTF!! These are supposed to be some of the best games made. (I did beat Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, of all games. Good game but it was too easy)

No wonder I can wait for a 360.

I can play a game, watch a film and post on here pretty much all at the same time. But when it comes to being creative (like writing) I need perfect silence to get the best results. When I have deadlines approaching I can't play games at all, except for FM2006, and I tend to forget about all my favourite TV shows.

Yeah when I on here I can post a response then go back to writing all while I have music playing. I add a little to each. I wish I had ProTools.:(

I make music in a rather segmented fashion. I may start a new song and add couple parts, leave it playing while posting, add another, then switch to a new entirely new song.

With the screenplays, I may leave 3 documents up at a time (while the music is on). I do spend longer on each document when I start typing though.

With my music the shit just comes to me. Writing is slightly different.

My screenplays already have their endings. I just have to get there and make it interesting. I may want one of my characters to go off the deep end and have to get him there.

Finally got the cruise set to the Caribbean. :01:

Got an oceanview on the main deck.

Even with me paying $598 (the cruise price thru my timeshare) for me and wifey, after taxes, port fees, airfare to Miami, and shuttle to the ship port, it still runs almost 2 grand though.

So now the

Mountain cabin
The cruise
Drummer Boy in PA
are all set

The only thing left is Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia.

There I wanna go to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA since wifey has never been. While there, we'll drive to Virginia Beach which is about 45 minutes away and probably see her sisters in Norfolk. We'll probably do that twice since we have a week and no one wants to go a theme park for a week.:ermm:

Theme park
Water park
Beach
Relatives

Check. My little girl is gonna love it.

I'll probably get that set before the week is out.

How long a flight is it?

Our flight roundtrip to Miami is about $200 each.

The $598 is some special cruise exchange with my timeshare. If I were taking a week in Williamsburg, I'd just pay $89 for the week. Cruises normally cost about $1000 per person so the $299 is a huge deal even though I give up one week.

I also can take unlimited Getaways where I pay $200 for 7 days but there is a limited list of places to choose from and the list is only 60 old.

Some years ago with my ex, we went skiing in southern New York with another couple and only stayed the weekend. It was still a good deal for $200 even though we had the whole week.

Oh jeeeez.

I just watched XXX: State Of The Union and while the fights and explosions were somewhat entertaining this movie was a piece o shit.

Talk about a cliched "eeww put an explosion there", "when he falls in the water make the train almost land on him", "get a group of street hoods rescue the President by blowing up the Capitol", "drive the hot sports car on the train tracks",

I'ma look this director Lee Tamahori to see what he's done before. This movie had to have huuuuuge budget and it was so uninsprired.

What a waste. It took me 3 days to watch this movie due to waning interest.

Fuck, now I'm gonna watch Hotel Rwanda.

edit: I see Lee isn't too bad. He did have the most over-the-top Bond movie, Die Another Day, under his belt.

He also did Mulholland Falls, Along Came A Spider, and The Edge...all decent movies.

He gets a rip for this movie although it seems the shit writing played a horrible role in it's direction and acting.
