I'll probably buy it sometime next year and hopefully by then the price would have dropped a bit, bigger and better games would be out and any faults and bugs would have been fixed.

Good luck, they haven't even started producing PS3's yet, think about that for a second. Launch day glory my ass, they'll be no better than 360 at this rate (how they're going to produce that many PS3's by November is beyond me, unless they do what microsoft did and make a faulty product).

700,000 per region, so unless you're waiting in line with a bat to hit people that might try to get it first, best of luck.

I personally am not going to buy it till a year in at the minimum.

Sony has locked in 17 November as the Australian launch date for the PlayStation 3, just in time for Christmas. The system will come in two bundles -- a PS3 with a 20GB hard drive (confirmed RRP of AU$829) and one with a 60GB HDD (confirmed RRP of AU$999).

As a comparison, the Xbox 360's core bundle retails for AU$499, while its upgrade bundle which includes a 20GB hard drive retails for AU$649.

The Australian launch date will come one week after the US and Japan release for Sony's next generation games console. European territories will also receive the PS3 on 17 November. The almost simultaneous worldwide launch date is a stark contrast to Microsoft's Xbox 360, which was released in Australia a number of months after its US release. However, we wouldn't bet money on Sony hitting that date, as global launches are a logistical nightmare, and as with Xbox 360, supply issues could cause delays.

According to Sony's latest specs list for PS3, there are several key differences between the 20GB PS3 and the 60GB PS3 apart from hard drive capacity. While the 20GB PS3 has all of the basic power and functionality of its more expensive sibling (including a Blu-ray drive), the 60GB bundle comes with card slots (Memory Stick, SD, Compact Flash), HDMI support and built-in 802.11b/g wireless.

Sony revealed the PS3's pricing and release dates at a pre-E3 press conference held in Los Angeles this afternoon. Also revealed was the final form factor for the PS3's controller, which looks exactly the same as current PlayStation control pads. The PS3 controllers, however, feature built-in Bluetooth for wireless gaming, with the R2 and L2 buttons enlarged. There is also a large button beneath the Start and Select buttons, although its exact use was not disclosed.

Sony has also taken a leaf out of Nintendo's book with its PS3 controller, equipping it with built-in motion sensitivity that can be used to control games. The PS3 controller features a six-axis sensing system that can detect pitch, roll and yaw, as well as three-dimension acceleration in the X, Y and Z axis. In a demonstration at its pre-E3 conference, Sony showcased the upcoming game Warhawk, which allowed you to maneuevre its flying vehicles by tilting the PS3 controller.

I think it's probably worth it to pre-order one and sell it on ebay prior to Christmas. Last year the 360's were selling for around $1200 on there. :O

I think I might do that.

I'll buy all my shipping materials ahead of time and start my bidding at least $150 over MSRP.

As matter of fact, I'm going to pre-order from various places starting tomorrow. I could use the extra cash. I'm sure I can't pre-order more than one in the same store. I'll use my girlfriend as a second name...that's it.

Ya my friend harsh did that with the 360, he bought it, played for a week, packaged it up cuz he got bored (no good games at launch mind you) and sold it on ebay for 1200 canadian after the shipping and handling and custom import/export fees, that's exactly a 200% profit cuz he bought it for about 600 after taxes.

I might just end up doing that since they announced theres only 400,000 units for all of North America, Sony is worst off then Microsoft when it comes to launch date.

360 ... (no good games at launch mind you)

all too common with new game systems. i wasn't too interested in X360 until recently. but it's finally getting a lot of excellent-looking games now & in the near future. ninety nine nights looks pretty good, gears of war looks fantastic, etc.

i might need to start saving money for an X360, so i can play the flood of good games that'll be coming out toward the end of the year. :D

We are in agreement. The 360 is shaping up very nicely about now. I even liked some of the early titles ok like Condemned.

I just went to the aussie playstation site and they say there are production issues with the blue laser diodes needed for the Blu-ray Disc drive which has caused the delay

i shall wait outside of circuit city until they open on launch day and buy one.
then i will probably sell it on ebay. like it was said before, people went crazy for the 360's last year and they only have 400,000 ps3's coming to america.

maybe i will buy 2...
