View Full Version : Name Restrictions

I think there ought to be a restriction in the quantity of characters available to a user, registering. I've seen some users with massive usernames (not naming anyone) which totally ruin the forum's layout by increasing the tables' width to fit their huge names. Or maybe it's just me .

I can see your point, but the people who have longs names don't seem to post that often (or not that i've noticed) so it's not really a big deal :)

actually, I have to agree, with only having a small monitor, it can be annoying, but i think its too much to ask of Paul/VB to check this as well

Surely this would be automated, like max characters in sig.

I agree and think this is a good idea.

It is annoying when you got a smaller monitor.

I agree there should be a limit. Maybe 20 characters?

I've only seen one guy with a long username Click here to see his profile (http://www.klboard.ath.cx/bb/index.php?act=Profile&CODE=03&MID=11238)

Can the admins truncate his name by editing the database (like those silly Short File names with the ~1).

yeah, there should be a limit. I reckon 7 should be max :P .

But, seriously, 20 sounds right and it's true that long names are a nuisance and would be more tidy without them.

At least have a good name (Nottingham  )......

I don't agree with you...I tried all my normal nicknames and they were taken...I had no choice but using a long name!

Allow long names!!!

Thanks...

yes it is. the screen is flat, instead of curved, and, you're right, the monitor itself isn't flat, but that's not what they're selling.

;) Why don't people throw out some names and see what other members think, if it is too long or not.Or PM the person and ask them to think about it.

Flat Screen CRT is a average monitor with a flat tube. Flat Screen TFT (Total Flat Transistor) is a monitor with a flat panel. Similar displays are LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and Plasma.
