is m$ gonna be manufacturering xbox 360's with hd drives or are they gonna all be external? i read a new article just now and toshiba is currently making an external drive, but not internal. seems gay. hopefully it won't stay this way...

Yeah pretty dum...
I believe though in the future (probably next year) they will release it with internal HD drive :P

yeah, just read today that toshiba "is" working on a internal hd dvd drive. if u look @ an xbox 360 mb is has hdmi inputs for such a device. so they claim. this is good news for i for one would not be buying an external drive.

Another thing I've read is that they would release an external BluRay drive if BluRay "wins".

Lol, M$ declared that there isin't any planning to set the HD-DVD in the Xbox360. So for now on, it's only false rumours (From xbox-scene) also, It would somewhat broke M$ strategy to set a very affordable game system. It's their only strong argument against Sony anyway...

here's the external HD-DVD Drive (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4162) for the 360 going for $170!

I'm confused here. Are 360 games in HD? If not- why do you need the extra drive? Just so your HD-DVD drive matches your X-box? If you NEED that drive to play games, that I understand, but if not, why would anyone buy that one when they can just buy a real player? Not that I'm in the market for either (not yet anyone) but I am curious as to what the point is?

point is games will be hd in the 360 genre and 2nd is that this hd drive is only $170 as of now. stand alone's are $500+. if u currently already have a 360 why buy a stand alone? new patch for 360 was also released to provide 1080p. u do the math...

Hell I'd buy a HD-DVD drive from $170 versus paying $500. 1080p kinda sucks cos I don't have TV for it.

My next one though.....fuck I haven't payed for my current one yet.

Well then my next question is- do you need a 360 to run that HD player?

I'm guessing so but if not, that' dbe one hell of a deal.

Sadly there's no 360 in my future. At least not for a while yet... :(

Yes. That's why it's only $200 (or so).

That's fine with me.

I hear that the 360 external dvd player was a mere upconvert dvd player..

Tbh I want to record in HD and not just watch prepackage stuff.

There are so many good TV shows on right now that my tivo can't hold them all long enough for me to watch them.

My only alternative is too download a good copy then bump up the resolution with an upconvert DVD player.

I'M FUCKING PISSED OFF!

I'd be a happy camper if there was a 500GB DVR box. HD takes up too much space!

Can't you make your PC into a PVR? I'm sure I've seen some articles about it but I don't have TV so it's of little interest to me.

Not as simple. PVRs suck and I don't know of an upconvert program that'll give me HD quality from the PC.

Those HD downloads maybe HD but not on an HDTV. I don't wanna watch on my computer monitor.

Once you start watching every show like you're in a movie theater with stunning video and audio quality and surround sound it's hard to go back.

I've just nixed a slew of shows for the season cos there are just too many good ones (and I've missed episodes).

I'll keep Heroes, The Wire, House, Lost, BSG, Alias, Supernatural, Shark and a couple more.

Gone are Prison Break, Kidnapped, Vanished, Jericho, and a host of others.

I might start not recording shows that are on On Demand but that shit ain't in HD either.

I WANT TO RECORD IN HD TO ARCHIVE!

Firefly is even being shown on Universal HD now.

Xbox 360 HD-DVD player (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360hddvdplayer/default.htm)

For $200 you get

HD-DVD player
Peter Jackson's King Kong (in HD of course)
Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote

not a bad deal at all.

If this sells well it could even spur more movie studios to jump on the HD-DVD bandwagon.

i prefer hd over bd. hd is backwards compatible w/all the dvd's i currently own and don't plan on upgrading!

The 360's HD DVD Drive is a good deal, plus I read somewhere that the drive could possibly be hooked up to a pc. Not sure if this is true though.
