Anyone interested in Vampires and such should check out Brian Lumley and his Necroscope Series, very, very good. Here is a LINK (http://www.brianlumley.com/books/necroscope/) to Brian's site and pages regarding the Necroscope series. Cold war Spies, History, ESP and just about anything else you can think of is covered in his series. Had me enthralled from the first paragraph and through-out the series, brilliantly written and well crafted.

Harry Keogh. To use an old adage, "the man, the myth, the legend."

Spanning thirteen volumes, Harry is intertwined in every one, whether it be as himself, his sons, or even Alec Kyle. You can't forget him, nor do you want to. Have some time to kill? Jump through a doorway into the vast world of the Necroscope. Oops...I haven't even mentioned the Wamphyri...but you'll find out about them soon enough.

More pic of his series of books.
http://www.brianlumley.com/graphics/books/Necroscope6.jpghttp://64.95.118.51/images/opti/14/d5/0812553640-resized200.jpghttp://www.brianlumley.com/graphics/books/NecroscopeEBranch1Hard.jpghttp://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/0340792450.02.MZZZZZZZ.gifhttp://www.brianlumley.com/graphics/books/NecroscopeEBranch3.jpg

I cannot say enough about this series of books, they are probably the most brilliantly detailed and contrived collection of books in a single series. They span thousands of years and just about every topic from dating through death.

Dude - I have been looking for another decent vampire novelist forever - heard of Lumley but had no idea what he wrote about. A whole new series!- whoo-hoo! I hope they're good.

Totally awesome in my opinion and those I know who have read them also. Please read the first one and post back, so others will know what you thought. I have never read anything as enthralling or captivating as this series is, if you love being whisked away to other worlds or times and being able to manifest your own visualizations as with any reading you will love this series, no doubt in my mind.

Cool - the first one is "Neroscope" right? I just need to finish what I'm reading now, but will go pick it up today and start ASAP. I might not be able to wait until I finish this one (it's short though).

Yes, I listed them in exact order left to right. Please make sure to come back and post a reply when you finish the first, and please make sure to repeat after each one, I think that may help steer some of our peers in the right direction when it comes to this type of genre, nothing beats these, honest. And no I am not the author, just an avid fan.

Please do go and check out the authors website HERE! (http://www.brianlumley.com/)

and make sure to check out the Necroscope section HERE! (http://www.brianlumley.com/books/necroscope/)

The Necroscope and Vampire World series of books have got to be the best horror-SF books I have ever read.

If you have not read these beauties then you should get down to your local bookstore RIGHT NOW.

Harry Keogh!!! Necroscope!!! What more can I say.

(I nearly failed my degree at college bacause I got so wrapped up in these books).

I've only read 1 of Lumley's Vampire books so far, and I really liked it. I read just about anything about vampires that I can find.

Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's Vampire series is also very good, for those that haven't tried it yet. Le Comte de St.Germain is the main character in most of them. Throughout the series, his quest is to find true love. He's a non-standard legendary, non-Kindred type of vampire. He can go out in daylight if he lines the soles of his shoes with native earth, for instance, although it weakens him. Definitely one of the main vampire series out there worth checking out, if you're not familiar with it.

You should really check out the rest of Lumley's collection, I have to say they are totally enthralling and hard to stop once fully engaged. Which one have you read? (if you can recall, that is)

Both Mick Ferren and Whitley Strieber write superior vampire fiction, also.
I'm currently reading Strieber's Lilith's Dream and enjoying it very much.

Have you read Lumley's books or you just basing your judgement on liking the other writers?

Hell?? Oh my yes, you would NOT want to visit starside bro! Or engage in the charms of certain of their 'ahem' ladies

Yup you guessed I'm a huge Lumley fan. His Cthulu Mythos stuff is awsome to, second only to Lovecraft himself.

That is cool then, just making sure. However I have never read Ferren or Strieber so my previous comments still remain true. As far as I am concerned there is none better than Lumley and this collection, but I will take a look at those 2 authors you mentioned, always open to new things.

I too *loved* the vampire books by Lumley.
I especially liked how he changed them from supernatural characters to perfectly natural and evolved characters.

Now I'm gonna have nightmares about this. I kind of like vampire books but I don't like to finish them since they get so boring at the end.

Lumley has a knack for not being boring, try his novels, they always lead to the next. In fact the more I read his novels the more i look forward to the next, something along the lines of Stephen King's Dark Tower series, when you finish the last page you want the next book there and waiting. Where Lumley has SK beat is that the next book is or can be waiting, SK is kind of been behind on his series, too much time elapses between releases. Try these Lumley books though, nothing boring about them to me.
