Trouble making KVCD

Whenever i download a movie from the net i always opt for a kvcd with cue and bin files for ease of burning, i am now trying to produce some kvcds myself to upload using TMPGEnc and kvcd templates, the initial film is a 1.44 Gb avi and after encoding i end up with a file that is still to large to fit onto a cd-r. Could some please tell me where im going wrong
