Cell Phone Question.....

I used to work for SimplexGrinnell(owned by TYCO). We were all given new cell a few years back. It wasnt long before everyone started complaining that the cell phone service was bad or no good in our state. You would go to an area and you would have service..if you had gone i dont know probably a couple more miles in a different direction you would have crappy service....anyway back to my question....Everyone complained until the company listen and got some tech from Verizon to come in and program everyones phones so we'll have service in all parts of the state not just in the cities...well it work...dont know what he did but we had service....so my question is ,,,How do we program our cell phones or I should say add cell towers(thats what the tech said) to our phones?

your phone works by locking onto its nearest cell tower (base station), that tower then communicates with other phones and base stations. the more towers in an area, the better the coverage.
what your provider did was put more towers in your area, the towers are the masts you see around.

they may have had to tune the phones in that area again if there was a major change to the networks setup.
