PeerGuardian2 educational block

i always use PG2 but i was wondering, is it safe to disable the educational block? it just blocks like universities and colleges and stuff, what thread are they to you?

the only list im using is the p2p one, activating any others just seems to slow down random websites and im fairly sure the p2p one blocks those companies interested in p2p activity

My advice is that dont use PG at all because it gives a false sense of security. Your ISP could see what you are downloading anyway unless it is encrypted data...regardless of that you are never 100% safe anywhere. If you feel the need to use it then i would also advise you to get IP filter but you see PG and ipfilter blocks out layerdtech servers which is why i dont use it. I think personally it just blocks out random people.

sorry for the noob question..but how do you make the data encrypted? It's not the same as turning on encryption, is it?

it slows down random websites becuase they either blocked or have webpages on them...if you want to stop that disable the http block...

it blocks organisations and anti p2p groups not 100% though obvs, anyways its all off topic tbh, why a educational block?

ur isp doesnt care what u download. they dont give a rats ass if ur downloading copyright material. the isp will only take action, or query ur activities if they are contacted by the copyright owner, like the mpaa/riaa for example.

peerguardian is recommended, but i dont see the point in many of the blocklists if ur only using it for p2p purposes. if this is the only reason ur using peerguardian, then disable the http block, and only use the p2p blocklist. i also use the government blocklist. but the spyware/ads blocklist is for http purposes only, and can be disabled.

its not 100% safe, but personally i think it provides that little bit more protection. why not use it.

the problem with allowing the http is that while on a torrent, you can connect to someone using port 80 (http) or 443 (https) and peerguardian won't catch it.

the only solution I know to this is to use a client that allows you to block connections on certain ports. I know azureus has this in the options, but I'm not sure of any others that offer that option.

When in doubt your better off running PG2 as even if it only blocks 1 proper address thats 1 more being blocked than none.

They do block alot of companies that shouldnt be blocked but you can always manually unblock them anyways.
