I keep meeting people who use their PCs extensively and still insist on using 800 x 600 pixel res!
self sabotaging ludites using product like photoshop/illustrator and protools which have way too many tool palets
i run 1280 x 1024 on a crap sampo alphascan 17 inch [i'd run higher on a better display]
and use up to 1600 x 1200 + 1024 x 768 on Mac using quark and BBedit
i of course design with 800 X 600 or less in mind for http, which is a real drag [but good for bandwidth]

what res do you run?
if 800 X 600 or less why?
do you know that you can see more information on screen in a higher res?

i use 1024x768. it's nice. 800 is too small and any bigger res is well too big, i cant see what it says on the screen! :P :D

i'm running 1600x1200x32 on my 22" flatscreen crt moniter, and i'm running 1280x1024x32 on my 19" lcd moniter. both hooked up to my pc. I use the crt moniter when i'm gaming, and i use the lcd moniter for everything else. while there both hooked up at the same time. i have it as a single moniter hook up. basically what displays on one moniter displays on the other moniter.

1024*768 @ 85Hz. It's a comfortable res for people who are using 17" monitors, which i would say is the most popular size atm.

I use 1152x864 @ 100hz on a 19" most of the time.

1280x1024...

1024x768 for most games, assuming they run fine, (ie, not doom3 alpha),

and for counter strike, i use 800x600, because its better for sniping!

I'm running 800 X 600 SVGA resolution, because my monitor is particularly old and it's maximum resolution would be XGA :(.

And I think it runs at something ridiculous like 60Hz :lol:.

Whats any higher then 1024x768 like?

It must be amazingly small coz I can just about see on this res.

bigger than 1024*768 can look like this (http://www.sigup.com/sigs/hugedesk01.gif) (but not on i86! :D )
[don't let IE6 resize the image to fit the window, hover your cursor over the bottom left of the image and use this buttonhttp://sigup.com/sigs/IE6_image_expand_button.gif
it toggles the image between 'fit in window'/'real size']

@AmarjitSingh :: good luck to you that sounds rough beg-borrow-steal :ph34r: :lol: :D

1280 x 1024 @ 85 Hz on a 19" CRT

1152*864 on a 17" @75hz

i think its the best size for 17"

15" -> 800*600 looks like 1024* on a 17"
17" -> 1024* looks like 1152*864 on a 19"

so for a 15" 1024 i reckon is the best
17" no less than 1152*864 for me

any higher is just stupid

it all depends upon how many pixels and how big they are doesn't it
that's what you seemed to have been saying

@echidna

yea basically, the size of the screen has a certain ammount of pixels (x,y) so some res' work better than others , some divide equally into 4:3 which is the best.

you have to try to find out how many pixels ur monitor has then choose the best res, more pixels then res and then 2 monitor pixels share 1 res pixel. more res than pixels then u loose info as 1 monitor pixel trys to display 2 res pixels, if that makes sense.

as far as i know 800*600 = 4:3 and so does 1024* , they are the best res' for 15"

1024* and 1152*864 and one other ?? are the best for 17", even tho 1152 doesnt break into 4:3 it breaks quite well, eg there is the same diff on both the 4 and the 3 parts so it does fit, others are 5:3 modes and 14:9 and 16:9 and some other weird ratios
