Half-life, Deus Ex, Return To Castle Wolfy, No One Lives Forever 2, Delta Force Black hawk Down, Unreal 2.

In my opinion they're all pretty good. Not a big Medal of Honor fan.

Serious Sam series for the gore, unreal tornament series for the weapons and graphics and I also liked Shogo:MAD for fun!! :P
.

Hey NewBie40, I have Max Payne on my WinXP system, it works fine. If you have a ripped version, XP compartibility may have been ripped out. Get the original from a swap shop like I did ($3) and enjoy the game!

first person shooter is where you see what the character sees and you just see the gun in front of you, such as RTCW and MOH and HL. third person shooters are games such as max payne where you see the whole character and you can see bit behind.

I prefer 3rd person shooters....i hate walking around with horse blinders ...you have no peripheral vision ....someone could be standing right next to you one foot away ready to blow your brains out and you cant see them because of the damn horse blinders

You have to constantly be turning your head to the left and right to have some peripheral vision...get a box ,cut the bottom out, tape it around your head and go out and try to play paint ball or something, you will get your ass kicked from people you cant see, standing directly next to you

I like the way Splinter Cell was made...you get to see your character, and have some degree of peripheral vision considering its not really 3D.

And games today are more like playing the lead role in a movie...could you imagine watching a movie all in first person view....you develop no connection to the character your playing because you cant see him

All games should have an option to go back and forth between first and third person view

The max payne rip thats floating around kazaa works fine on my XP machine

file is called

Max Payne (It works Perfectly) (1) and its 247 or so MB in size, only some of the music is ripped, I like playing it with the Matrix soundtrack running in the background

Anyway, I like UT2003 and the original UT is excellent also, Alien versus predator 2 is incredibly scary and good also

True but first persons are more realistic and you have better aim....

But if you only shortened it out to pc games the halo would not come first would it? I would have to say pc wise. . . . UTK2003 :D

If you want to play with yourself any of the above will do the job. If you want to show off some skill get yourself Quake III - the pace is MUCH faster, the online opponents deadly. Just don't expect to win your first multiplayer game!

Kevhead you make a good point. A very good point. I liked Max Payne a lot for your reasons. At first when I read your statement I was ready to say "well hey no that's wrong!! first person shooters mean full vision of what the person is seeing!" But that's really not true, in real life (like you said about the box on head during paintball) you have full peripheral vision, perhaps up to 140 degree angle vision. I've been killed many a time in Counter-Strike by walking RIGHT past a terrorist pointing his shotgun at my cranium. The only reason I prefer first-person shooters (since it's a game, not a movie) is because if it's the right game you can be totally immersed, and personally I have better aim.

Where's the Duke Nukem' lovers? Before everything was a polygon count, Duke was almost pixilated run n' gun perfection. What other game gives you the ability to kill strippers(or throw dollars at 'em) AND such classic lines such as, "that's one 'doomed' space marine"? Not to mention all the inside jokes and various references to '80's and '90's culture, so many, people still have a hard time listing them all. I Still play it, and it's still one of my favorites. "Duke Nukem' Forever" has some big shoes to fill IF it is ever released.

You hit the nail on the head with your last statement - it's easier to aim in first person view because, while you may have slightly more peripheral vision in a third person shooter, sometimes you can't see what's right in front of you because your character is in the way.

And as for DOOM and Duke Nukem, I loved those games too but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone who has played any modern 3D shooters. It would be like trying to convince a 14 year old that Citizen Kane was The Matrix of it's time.

It make no difference...even in first person shooters you never aim like you do with a real gun unless your sniping.... you have cross hairs that you place over the enemy's head or body....name me one FPS that does not use the red or white cross hairs to show you where your going to hit

Third person works the same way, you just place the cross hairs over your target and shoot.

I like the way Rouge Spear was made, you could switch back and forth between first and third depending on your situation....and i would switch constantly through out the game

I was wondering if it depends on what graphic card u are using to get Max Payne to work on the new computers. There are alot of people playing Max on XP out there. Wouldnt it be nice if someone could explain the reason why. On my old computer Max Payne was working perfectly

With XP you can right click on the .exe , go to properties and set it to run in windows 98 compatibility

Yeah its definitely better. Jedi Outcast is great to play with lightsaber, but it sucks as a shooter. Its so damn boring if you havent got the Light saber.

I played the multiplayer demo... It's a really fun game, but the demo was glitchy as hell; never crashed, though. I heard the retail version is the same way, but there are a number of patches that apparently improve it greatly.

The single player demo would lock up while loading the map on XP Pro...
