Halo there...

We all suffer from them in one way of another...

There are many forms of "HALO" and in this thread we shall be discussing them.

What is a Halo?

1. A luminous circle, usually prismatically coloured, round the sun or moon, and supposed to be caused by the refraction of light through crystals of ice in the atmosphere. Connected with halos there are often white bands, crosses, or arches, resulting from the same atmospheric conditions.
2. A circle of light; especially, the bright ring represented in painting as surrounding the heads of saints and other holy persons; a glory; a nimbus.
3. An ideal glory investing, or affecting one's perception of, an object.
4. A coloured circle around a nipple; an areola. :naughty:
We shall be discussing the following points...

a.What is not a halo.

b.Can you eat them?

c. Can you get your halo back, if you misplaced it?

d. Has Tony Blair got a Halo?

e. Where did he lose it?

e. Examples of Halos

f. How to combat the effects of the "halo effect?
g.Can you buy them and are they really cheaper at Tesco's.

h. Is it true the darker colouring round a nipple is also called a "Halo"and shall we post loads of example of them :w00t:
i. Is j2k4 suffering from the Halo Effect? There are more question but these will "appear" around the subjects as we progress in this thread.

The halo effect refers to a cognitive bias whereby the perception of a particular trait is influenced by the perception of the former traits in a sequence of interpretations.
The halo effect is involved in Kelley's implicit personality theory, where the first traits we recognise in other people then influence the interpretation and perception of latter ones (because of our expectations). Attractive people are often judged as having a more desirable personality and more skills than someone of average appearance. Celebrities are used to endorse products that they have no expertise in evaluating.

OK enough for now, time for your comments on Halos.. and eventual photographs of your favourite halos.

PS. Please don't spam your own personal Halo in this thread...

I don't like Halo's because for me they precede the onset of a migraine. :(

Sounds like you have the same problem as Tony Blair.

Although I hasten to add.. his Halo has been progressively disapearing.. Yours apparently come and goes with you migraine attacks, do you notice any sychronicity with the different quarters of the moon ..

:noes: ..erm no.. yes! :yup:

What I really meant was..grovel grovel... that chocolate well know as possible cause of migraine is harvested when it's ripe and preferably, when the sun has a halo around it and the moon is nearly full.. These properties ( halo, full moon) are carried over into the chocolate making industry. Each year, scientist think they are closer to removing these properties from chocolate, but actually it's impossible. Our dear suffering pleasure centres, would be advised against the consummation of chocolate, two weeks before and two weeks after a full moon, especially if they notice a halo around the sun.

Before I continue, examples of "slipped" Halos..

If you observe carefully you will notice Bush's Halo has slipped slightly to the left.. This is actually a totally normal process!
