Wait 6 month's and you can buy a PS2 with a TV recorder option, also PS2 has a lot more games.

Well look at it this way.

In a year or so, X-Box chips are likely to decrease considerably in price, so it'll be cheaper to get an X-Box.
It's easy to chip a PS2 and get games for f*** all already.

Whereas I know no way so far to copy games on discs small enough to fit in it, let alone chip the damn thing.

Moral - Spend your cash on the Gamecube. Get great games. Wait 12-18 months and get your X-Box chipped then :D

Don't get an xbox, the games (I don't know about over the internet ones) just aren't as good as PS2 games. Even the ones they've transferred from ps2 just arent as smooth and in many the gameplay isn't as good. Plus no tekken so whats the point.

I dont know what consoles you are playing. i have seen and played games on both systems, PS2 does not have the graphics card or speed to compare with the XBox. or just check some reviews of the same games for both systems on Gamespot or IGN.

XBox Vs PS2

Xbox- Intel Pentium III 733MHz processor technology with Streaming SIMD Extensions

PS2-300 Mhz

______________________________________________

XBox - Graphics Card Clock Frequency: 300Mhz

(Xboxs Graphics card is almost identical to a Geforce TI 4200)

PS2 - Graphics Card Clock Frequency: 150Mhz
______________________________________________

Xbox-Memory 64MB

PS2 - Memory 32MB

_____________________________________________

XBox- Memory Bandwidth 6.4 GB/Sec

PS2- Memory Bandwidth 3.2 GB/Sec

_____________________________________________

Xbox- Polygon Performance 150 M/Sec

PS2- Polygon Performance 66 M/Sec

_____________________________________________

XBox- Storage Medium- 5x DVD, 8 G I G A B I T E hard disk, 8 MB memory card

PS2- Storage Medium - 4x DVD, 8 M E G A B I T E memory card

____________________________________________

Xbox - Built In Ethernet card- Yes

PS2- Built In Ethernet card - No

____________________________________________

Xbox- DVD Movie Playback - Built In

PS2 - DVD Movie Playback - Utility required to be on memory card

____________________________________________

Yes the PS2 has more games but give it a few years and the Xbox will be flooded.

I have Madden 2002 for the Xbox, the PS2 version does not compare in graphics.

Its impossible according to the hardware specs for the PS2 to stack up to the XBox

And you can play online for free with the XBox with some free software from gamespy

Not an x-box fan boy by far!

But the only reason I might buy an x-box later this year is fable (http://www.fablegame.com/)!

Then again if you don´t like those sort of games (Though you might after this one) or you would never consider buying a console only because of one game, I guess I have no argument for you..

lol smooth.. ha, its better on xbox also.... xbox load faster (cuz of the built in hd) and.... xbox and ps2 have almost the same games, so theres no point in getting a ps2. Also if you mod you xbox you can do 200x more things than a modded ps2 can do :D

But the PS3 will kick some serious ç§

http://www.gamespy.com/hardware/january03/...3/playstation3/ (http://www.gamespy.com/hardware/january03/playstation3/)

"Cell, scheduled to hit the market in late 2004 or early 2005, differs notably from current processors. This finely crafted chunk of silicon will contain multiple chips within a single unit, and will be able to perform in excess of one trillion mathematical calculations a second. Put into perspective, that makes it approximately 100 times more powerful than a 2.5 GHz Pentium 4 CPU! ."

Id argue all the way down the line that Playstation 2 is way better,
one point though, x-box has dead or alive: beach volleyball.
Then again, sod both of them, buy a pc.
wait your using a pc.
stop complaining.

This is exactly where this argument should end. The Xbox is a cheap PC. And the PS2 is an even cheaper PC (talking in terms of capability). And why do people always use the excuse "PS2 has more games". A diluted game stock means jack shit when it comes to quality. And I guess the XBOX total games of 300 aren’t too much to pick from? I'm glad I never got hooked on a brand name, and try to convince myself it is always the best. I've owned Nintendo, PS2 and now a XBOX. When I heard of the capabilities of the Xbox I returned my PS2, also I thought the graphics on the PS2 weren’t any thing to right home about either. And to tell you the truth I might buy the PS3 when it comes out because it will be far superior to the XBOX. That's because I don't care who makes it, I only want the best. Right now Xbox is by far the best. And frankly when the PC gets more connected to the TV I see all of these systems fading out. PC graphics are by far the best and the only thing holding them back is they really aren’t' designed to be connected to the TV and have gaming console controllers. Get an Xbox and forget the playstation until they come out with a better graphic rendering console.

I think people should worry about the quality of games rather than the quantity. XBox doesn't have the same calibre.

well now you can get a PS2 emulator for the xbox, so if your xbox is chipped you can play all of your PS2 games real and coppied on your xbox console. i havnt tried this emulator myself but my mate has and he says its the real deal, the good thing is if you can afford it you can install a big hdd (upto 200gig) in the xbox and then store all your games on the hdd so there isnt even wny wiating for the game to load up now. so if you havnt got a PS2 and you are thinking of either the XBOX or PS2 then there is only one choice and thats the xbox as you can play both consoles games on the xbox.

Xbox all the way! Its graphics are far better than ps2's. Ps2's games all have not so realistic graphics..Also most people think the controllers on xbox are to big...but now i can buy a Controller S..which is smaller. So Xbox is the perfect game system. A system called " Xbox Next" will be coming out around or before the time of PS3

I think u guys missed the point, I know the PS2 doesn't compare in technical specs to the XBOX, the graphics and speed simply aren't as good, but in terms of gameplay the PS2 wins hands down. Try any of the games that are on both systems (ie ported from PS2) for a week and for most of the games you'll soon realise what a pile of shit the xbox version is. When u say u can get all the games of the PS2 on the Xbox what u really mean is u can get a worse version of the game. Like MagicNakor said its all about the quality of the games. (I've never tried this emulator stoi mentions so can't comment on that)

get a ps2, easier to chip, more variety of games, and y would you want a pc in a box when you've allready got one?, Ps2's the better gamers console, but if you wish to be different and a microsoft jombie then x-box it is!

Kid1a, i have the feeling your taking the piss here, there has been one on irc for a month or so now, but as i havnt got my xbox chipped i havnt bothered to download it, like i said i cant verify it but my mate has and he says it works, im thinking of getting it chipped next week if i can afford the £30 for it so i will report back with my findings then, if its a load of crap i will hold my hands up and admit it, but i know they have been working on one for about 6 months now so it wouldnt surprise me at all if this is the real deal.

stoi

edit: PS You can chip an xbox without a chip now, just ftp it with you pc and its done, im not sure of the details but ive heard its very easy to do, the only prob with doing this is that you cant revert back to it being not chipped like with the chipped ones you can switch the chip on or off if you want. Also it costs (from the person who fits them) £80 to get your ps2 fitted with the latest chip and only £50 to get the xbox chipped, i know i mentioned £30 before but thats because im family i will get it for that price.

Look guys! I have a ps2! and a crappy computer! I cant afford an upgrade but I can afford an X-box I wanna play Half life 2 and Doom 3 and Deus ex: Invinsible war! I think that the upgraded ps2 is bull! Its a way to make more money and to see if the format of putting a bunch of features in a console sells! Its basicly a test for the Ps3 Sony is trying to sell all their componets in one thing.

They failed with acomplishing that with the Ps2........The cell processor is supposed to comunicate with other electronic objects thus connecting to anything else that is Sony. It is supposed to make you buy more Sony products, it is cofusing but a conspiricy if you ask me.
Sony is trying to reach a Microsoft like state by dominating the world with their media.

Oh yeah I might buy an X-box and boycott Sony because they're getting too greedy they trying to take over peoples lives with games like Everquest.

Well an X-box is like 250$ while an upgrade is like 1000$ at least! the games are pretty demanding you need like a 500$ video card to run em (Canadien money) since the X-box dosent need to run an operating system it needs less powerfull hardware.

Tikibonbon
06-04-2003, 03:08 AM
you can get a good barbone for about 150 dollars and if you aren't a powergamer you can get by with a 64m video card

Wow, boy PS2 owners will say anything to justify they have a better system. They try to use the escuse that more features make it worse than the PS2. Why would you want the Xbox because it is a PC in a box? Then what is the PS2? A piece of shit PC in a box that knowbody should waste money on when a equal priced better PC in the box exists(Xbox). What do you think gaming consoles are? They are shitty PC's in boxes that don't have as good of graphics, but can connect to a TV easier. Try to justify to me again why your agurement about already having a Computer should prevent you from buying an Xbox, because that even says you should stay even farther away from the PS2 using that resoning. Dumbass, doesn't even know how to make a valid point

I hate to tell you all this but the new PSX is scarily similar in size and dimensions to the box

and when someone say's the xbox is a pc in a box they're talking mainly about the games. The xbox just uses any pc game it can handle to try and sell itself. Like halo (which was started before anyone had heard of an xbox) that was meant for pc. The xbox is stealing our games doom 3, deus ex 2 they're all being taken from us pc owners

Well fighting and even flaming over which system is best sounds kinda dull to me...
Just buy whatever system makes you happy. Ps2 have the most games, the x-box have better machine power, and the gamecube have Mario, Zelda, Metroid and all those classics which are still some of the best games out there. I´m sure there are like a ton of other arguments for buying anyone of these consoles as well.

To all those that constantly compare console systems to a gaming computer... come on can you really a tricked out computer gaming system to any of the console???? X-box has computer components that are already old news...Ps2 well I don't want to even mention that...GameCube same Tech age as the xbox...Don't Get me wrong here I own two thirds of the Big name consoles, but i am getting sick of people always comparing console gaming to computer gaming...with the newest components in a computer, you can have graphics that will make your eyes bleed, especially hooked up to a HDTV using an ATI Radeon...granted it costs more to get that quality, but do you know anyone who uses thier computer exclusively for gaming???The games are progressively getting better on the consoles(graphic wise) but the computer will always have better gpus...The gamecube is more geared to younger childern and the xbox is geared towards a mature audience...and for the ps2 well it does have a lot of games and it is backwards compatible ...their are exceptions to all the consoles though...my best advice it to play the xbox with a few keys games for it(go see a friend, gaming stores have them on display, rent one,etc..) and see if it's the system for you...you put four people who are all arguing the merits of all the gaming platforms and you would be there all week not getting anywhere...and to all those people out there please stop comparing consoles to computers... :D good luck in your struggle to find a good gaming system that suits YOU...

I have a ps2 and its pretty much straight forward console. You put in a game and play and thats it. Its all good if thats all you wanna do with it.

WIth an xbox, you can mod it for very cheap and download a prog for it called evox. This allows you to upgrade your hdd, Play xbox games from hdd and you dont have to patch burned games.

There are also tons of emulators for it to play snes roms, genesis roms and heaps of other ones including a psx emulator and the best thing about this is with evox you can copy all your roms and emus to the hdd and just play them of the hdd. (same for xbox games)

Im just hoping there is a good n64 emu being made

Which means you're constantly spending time and money upgrading hardware and downloading software... not to mention all the headaches caused by conflicts, bugs and errors in Windows. I like PC games, but every so often I just get tired of all the BS and switch back to consoles. It's so much easier to just stick in a disc, turn it on and play without needing to setup the display settings, define the controls, defrag you hard drive, etc., etc.

Besides, consoles are constantly evolving too. Only every time they come out with a new system it only costs you $300. On a PC that's barely enough for a new Video Card. And no matter how much you upgrade, eventually you'll have to spend $1000 or more for a whole new system.
