the minimum system reqs for hl2 are rather obviously gonna be pretty high.

expect it to be (ballpark):

P4 1.6GHz
384-512MB RAM
64MB video card (though your 7500 would probably run away crying). expect it to be in the region of radeon 9000 or geforce 4 ti4200.
the install will probably be very large too (3-4gig) because of the details of the textures.

if you were thinking of upgrading, i'd recommend a new graphics card and then 256MB more ram.
there's no point getting faster ram (i.e. 2700, 3200) due to the fact your cpu has a 266MHz fsb. stick with another 256MB of 2100 ddr.

you do not mention which motherboard you have. it's not exactly critical, however, a good computer is nothing without a good motherboard.

thanx. i think ill go check out some prices for those radeon 9500 series, heard they were pretty inexpensive.
and ill definattly upgrade the ram to ATLEAST 512mb

Yeah right.

It's comparable to the new Unreal engine.

Which states its mins as:

733MHz Intel/AMD CPU
256MB RAM
32MB GeForce2 MX
3GB HD space
8X speed CD/DVD drive
Windows 98/ME/2K/XP

i did say ballpark.

plus, it would be interesting to see what the actual performance on a system such as a

733MHz Intel/AMD CPU
256MB RAM
32MB GeForce2 MX
3GB HD space
8X speed CD/DVD drive
Windows 98/ME/2K/XP

actually is.
if anyone has a similar spec can they tell us what unreal 2 runs like?
what framerates at what detail levels and suchlike.

i'm not trying to say that hl2 won't run on that spec, i'm just highly sceptical

im gonna jump in real quick im wondering if my computer will be able to handle that rather of what looks like one of the greatest games of the year but here my system spec's

520 DDR Ram
2.4 P4
umm im pretty sure its a got s very decent mothers board.
64 MB Intel Extreme Graphic card.
80 Gig Hard Drive

i know im gonna be cleaning out my system once i get it as well. but how does that sound im prolly gonna get a new video card (if i can get money :( )

they already stated the minimum rewquirments on one of the reveiws. i think it was gamespots review. just look for it, theres a link around here somwhere, i do remember it lightly:
700mhz
128mb ram
32meg card (might be a 64...)
thats pretty much all it said for minimum specs.

YES!!!! oops :"> i-i mean ahem cool i dont need to upgrade my machine im gonna go search thru google to see if i can get n e more specs if i can i'll post them.

700Mhz!!! that's got to be wrong

my system is
750mhz AMD Duron
128mb ram
radeon 7000

and even with all the details on lowest i cant get a decent framerate on rtcw
(min 500mhz? i dont think so)

I think the min will be in the same area as doom 3
which is
1.6ghz AMD athlon or P4
a geforce 3, equivalent or higher
256mb RAM

this is basically dependent on the definition of "minimum" spec.
what is the minimum average framerate at what details to qualify for the minimum spec?
it's quite a grey area

I don't care for the details very much because I've usually got them on low, but when I see games on high graphics I don't see much of a difference just a few more bulletholes and a more shiny gun

As for framerates 40fps will do me fine

These are all quite good guesses, but the minimum requirements are listed in the newest PC Gamer Magazine as follows (I'm reading STRAIGHT from the mag):

(just little clips of what they did say (valve and PC GAMER))

"will be fully scalable"

"even able to run on TNT2 cards"

it is true that the game will be very scalable.

Specs are:

700+ mhz
3+ gig hard drive, though game will take up only about 1 1/2 or so.
TNT2 Graphics card or above (obviously MUCH lower performance)
(newest radeon and gforce are recommended)
64mb of RAM
Windows Compatible Sound Card
Direct X 9.0 or higher
8x CD-ROM drive

you know i dont understand why a xbox with such outdated technology would be able to run half life 2 and doom 3. even if the games are optimzed for it

gamer
06-04-2003, 02:44 AM
the xbox dedicates all its power to running its games, which means it doesn't need half of what a pc needs to run a game at the same speed. if the pcs of today did that doom 3 would run on a 700mhz, 64mb pc133 sdram, 32meg 3d card, with no problems at all.

yea your proably right. im lookin @ my task manager (winxp) and see 20 different apps running in the background.

i wish they could make a windows compatable gaming os.

hmmmm imagine the fps

hey i was just thinkin. does that mean if i use an old er version of windows (ie win98) i would get a SIGNIFIGANT increase in perforamce.

it might help a little bit for gaming, but nothing noticible

Those intel extreme graphics cards are fairly crap - i'd go out and spend $100 on a decent card and everything else looks pretty good.

im most likley gonna go and do that but as crappy they are i actually run games like Postal 2 and games similiar to that with no problemthe only thing that sucks is when i play postal 2 it wont reflect when im looking into a mirror.
