I need a PC thats just for downloading.

My PC at the moment is very slow.

I just want CPU, motherboard, small amount of RAM and a HDD.

No graphics card or sound card.

I'm thinking a single core fast CPU with a cheap motherboard and about 512MB of RAM with a pretty decent sized HDD, say about 250GB.

Any tips or ideas guys?

A PC for downloading doesn't need a fast CPU. An older PIII is plenty for just that.

I was thinking about the pars and extracting my pentium 3 hours nearly an hour to extract a DVD

You can speed up the extracting by using two harddrives on seprate channels but the repairing process with par's does take a long time on dvds.

why would it be faster with two hard drives on two channels

If you have the read the rar achive on one drive and extract(write) to the other drive it is noticebly faster for large files. The seperate channels is if its hooked up to ide interface.

You could also setup them up in raid configuration if the motherboard supports it but you'll need two or four drives atleast

Also for the op, do you have a newsreader that automatically repairs and extracts or do you manually check and extract.
