TMPGEnc owns....

If your looking for a very fast tool, use DVD2SVCD. It automates nearly all of the steps for you. You press go, and when your finished the AVI or DVD(.ifo) is finished it will be encoded and split into 2 or 3 bin/cue CD images that are ready to be burned to a CD-r

I suggest doing it while you sleep, and wake up to the finished work.

EDIT: Although, DVD2SVCD does use TEMPEnc as it's encoder.....

ive heard that canopus is the best encoder out there, i have just downloaded it off bittorrent but havnt had the chance to use it, but i think it all depends on our pc Hardware, i have a 650mhz pent 3, 196 meg ram, 8 meg graphics card and it takes about 14 hours to encode a 700meg .avi to svcd, vcd takes about 8 hours but the quality isnt as good and thats with tmpeng.

It depends mostly on your processing power actually. I have a 1.6ghz Athlon 1900, and it takes me between 2-6 hours to encode 700meg AVI.

I must admit that I have tried many different programs but Tmpeg is the best out there - takes me the same time as the movie length i.e. 1 1/2 to process an avi to an mpeg i have a 2.2ghz 1gig ram 64 meg vid card :)

on my pIII 750 it used to take 7hrs to encode a dvd rip or an avi - <<me kisses my new comp>> ;)
