that wouldnt be a good idea even if you can get it to work. Your ps2 will end up fucking up and you wont be able to play it what so ever. arnt you satisfied for on your com. or do you miss your ps2

Yeah, I know a lot of people bought PS2's and Xbox's based on the fact that they didn't own a regular DVD player. Trust me, buy a regular 50 - 80$ DVD player to play DVD+RWs and SVCDs. Keep your video game systems for video games, that way theyll last longer.

I made my own DVD from an avi and burned it on a DVD-RW. It worked fine. My PS2 has no chip or anything on it. I hope it doesn't mess up my PS2

I've been watching DivX/XviD movies on my PS2 for about 5 months now without a single problem and I watch at least 2-3 movies on it a week.
If anyones interested you can find a link for it here (http://www.ps2reality.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=40) you would need a chipped PS2 or a way of booting cdr's.
The Media player does have its limitations, movies of a high bitrate/resolution tend to skip frames and it cant play AC3 audio as of yet.
Hope this helps.

Why would dvds screw up the PS2 exactly. The motor runs more when I play a game because I play a game longer. So what's the dealio?

I think the pronblem you get is the dreaded sonry disk read error(just search "sony dre")Mine was ok for a while playing dvd's but ultimately it went wrong :( And there is a way of playing vcd on playstaion but it is very limited 1 minute or so if i read the instructions right  but then again i do get confused easily  do a k-lite search for ps2-vcd file length is 500kb and if anyone understands it let me know lol

Never had the problem and I have a 1st gen PS2. I also wonder if it has to do with where you bought it (regionwise). I live in the Washington DC area (US).

i had my ps2 for 2 years and then it slowly quit playing dvds then slowly quit playing the games. now it wont play a thing which really sucks because i payed full price on that biotch. I dont know what it is about the dvds but it really fucks up the laser or something. ive spoken with alot of people who work on these things and they say if you play dvds on your ps2 it will eventually fuck up where you cant play a thing on it. I have no answers of why it does it but i could tell you that it does and it will continue to do so. thats why sony is coming out with a ps3 which is supposed to topple the x-box but unfortunatly for sony there will be an x-box2 coming out the same year as the ps3. oh well go for the x-box2 i say.

That's not always true. I've always played DVD's in my PS2 and my PS2 is from the very first shipment to the US. So I have had over 3 years of lots of DVD's and alot of gameplay. And I have had no problems what-so-ever.

I have heard PS2's being shit quality but I never had a problem. At least 3 friends of mine said that after the warranty was well expired it just broke down. Instead of getting it fixed (too much$) they bought a new one. There was also a famous game developer (a person) that said he didn't want to make games for the PS2 anymore because Sony basically makes you buy a new one when it brakes. Unfortunately I cannot remember the guy's name (it was in EGM). Makes you think about the inflated sales number huh.

Hmm.. I have a first day ps2 and haven't had a single problem with mine. I pretty much only use it for dvds, as I get bored with games pretty quickly.
