There are ratings in movies like PG , R ,U . Well, how many rating are there ? on what they rate ? What these intitials stand for ? Where can I know about this ? any links or anything ?

In the U.S. the MPAA provides ratings (http://www.mpaa.org/movieratings/) for movies.

Although they are not required for a movie to be released, the studios are afraid people won't go see a movie unless it has a rating of some type.
