Ok, in a nutshell, Sygate Firewall wont run, Windows Update wont work, and I get an error when I try to syncronize my time/clock (i mentioed that because it supposedly has something to do with my windows update problem).

Whats the problem here? ive tried doing research, but to no avail. All of the articles i've found have blamed the fact that windows update wont work on the firewall, but my firewall wont even start up. Symantec says it could be a Worm, preventing my firewall to start up. My my symantec corporate antivirus program hasnt found any viruses (with latest virus-updates). Some of the articles I've read say that if your date and time are incorrect, windows update will not work... but i cant syncronize the time!

Any ideas? I dont have the XP firewall running, all my services are set to default, and so far, my antivirus has found nothing harmful.

That sounds serious.
I'm not putting Sygate down or anything, but even the newest version is full of bugs when I run it on my comp.
I finally uninstalled it and went back to ZAP.
If norton didn't find anything than it's probably not a virus.
You could go to the last resort and do a clean install.
It's really not that bad a deal if you have somewhere to put your data.
Are you on the said computer now?

Yes, this is my personal computer. I cant find any articles referring to SPF not starting up like normal. Virus-scan found nothing. Windows update still wont work. I am administrator.

Here's an article that describes the exact problem i'm facing... but their solutions are vague, and dont help: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1038514239

I got my firewall to work again... just uninstalled and reinstalled. Also, the Time Sync works again...

But, windows update still doesn't work...

What is the problem windows update is giving? Is it service pack related?

if you haven't changed the key yet, this is one solution.
Change the corporate key (http://members.shaw.ca/telfaq/Changing%20the%20XP%20Professional%20Corporate%20Product%20Key.htm)

This isnt (and shouldnt be) service pack related. I slipstreamed SP1 into my xp corp install a long time ago, plus i always use valid keys when installing.

When I run Windows Update (wupdmgr.exe OR http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp), it runs fine, but goes to 100% in under a second, and it displays no updates with the Windows section greyed out.

Either its me or its windows update, and i highly doubt the latter.
Read the article I posted above, it describes the exact probelm i'm having with windows update... just doesnt give me any real solutions.

BTW, i DO NOT have, and never had, automatic updates enabled. I can usually download my updates manually through the site.

so KB:Q241234

All the programs that Microsoft claims interfere with Windows Update, have never effected me in the past.

Anyone know of any real solutions?
