A vote of "No" from me, I think the Mods have enough difficulties chasing spam, and the ability for everyone to add polls will just add to it

No for many reasons people will reply to it for nothing sometimes jsut to reply it will turn into spam

we don't need stupid Polls like what your favourite flaver Carmal or Chocklate".

also it will lead to flame wars like X BOX v PS2 ect

Nah thats not a good idea to allow non-mod to start polls. Only more absurd things to show up on this forum! I think we have those enough :)

That's true. But have you seen the ketchup thread?
Seriously if people could start unlimited polls they would abuse it. But if we were allowed to start them but with restrictions, I think it could work. For instance, letting people start them only once a week or something.

thewizeard
07-18-2003, 05:50 AM
I voted for the right to start a poll. In my opinion a member should only be able to start a poll once a month(for example) Also after a certain time it should close. (a week?)

Of course one should only be allowed to vote once. I looked to see how many votes had been cast and noticed I could vote again! I did not of course.

Balamm there is something wrong with the poll.

That's a good point, tite-wad. These days you can't be sure of anything. I have had a lot of trouble reaching the forum today. After posting everything seems to freeze up. If I go to look at another post I get a message that it can't find the page I'm looking for. So the answer is, "Who knows".

In any case I don't believe they will ever allow the members to start their own polls.

Hey Lamsey, welcome to the world of the 18+!

What do you mean? It's not possible for members to start a poll? If that's what you mean then this poll is only theoretical and rather pointless.

No, I mean it's impossible to put limitations on the polls -

If You have an idea of a poll just ask a moderator.

Normal...hmmm......jetje the ketchup related threads were somewhat strange to me. What is normal? Can you give me a definition because I think some people might be hesitant to bother a mod about a poll and they don't even know what will be accepted. What is normal? I guess its "something that won't offend" but I could be wrong.

thewizeard
07-18-2003, 09:07 AM
Jetje, the moderators already have the "right" to start a poll. Perhaps it would be better if only the "normal" members vote in this poll.

If the yes votes exceed the no votes will there be a change?

I think the "ketchup polls" were abberations - occasionally mods need to have some fun too. :D

However, IMO we'd be seeing that sort of thing on a regular basis if anyone who wanted to start a poll was allowed to.

Well 1st of all i'm just a member like all of you, only thing i edit more into the board as you all is the fact i sometimes keep running around the board cleaning up.
And blow some forrest fires out.. Really mods are no more no less then ordinary members... ;) So why can't we participate in these board issues?

Well the Ketchup, i can imagine someone that missed it at that time don't know what it's all about, same goes if we start talking 'bout TRX wars etc.... :D

About if the poll is succesfull, do we implant it... ??
Well think if the majority is in favor we'll discuss it with admins and mods.. ofcourse take the outcome of the poll with us in that debate, in the end it will be a decission made by VB. B)

So members should be given the option to make posts, eh?
How about we make all members mods?
Close down the forum and shoot the owner.
Would THAT please you? :P

Seriously though - Some members are already proving it a bad idea by abusing posts already.

If members cannot be sensible with their posts in general, then polls are going to be abused just as much if not more.

Until such posts are ceased, I am fully against members being able to post polls?

What was wrong with asking mods to do polls in the first place? :P

The current Invision Power Board build won't allow poll rights to be automatically added after reaching a number of posts.

The only way around it would be for members, upon reaching a number of posts, to be moved into another user group which had poll creation rights - And considering that it'd have to be manual, the hassle would be too much.

Sorry - Can't be done that way :(

The board software doesn't allow that - it's everybody or nobody. ;)
The problem with the 'everybody' option is that the board would be spammed with useless polls (in the past it was possible, but the Admins had to disable the option).

Now tell me geitje, what poll would you like to see? :D

it is possible to automatically "promote" people to a different user group after a certain number of posts using the software, so that is actually a fairly good idea.

...and i voted Yes, but i think it should only be in the lounge which is full of crap anyway. if people post rubbish polls, then people will ignore them, and theyll disappear into ovlivion, like the people who post rubbish threads now...the only difference is that these threads will have a ticky box at the top.

yes, but only in the lounge,
also if its possible only after a certain ammount of posts aswell, so newbies learn the rules before we get millions of polls.

thewizeard
07-23-2003, 03:56 PM
Well you could add up all the posts and then subtract the posts made in the lounge, calculate the square root, double it, add the age of the member, divide by 3, Go to your logarithm table with this number, note the first number that you started with, go to your logarithm table, check this number out, add these numbers together, go to your antilogarithm table, write this number down then do the same for each member. It would be quite simple really.

Well, once again I voted YES on this subject. I see no reason why users can post a stupid, pointless topic in the Lounge, yet they can't start a stupid, pointless POLL. If it's as good enough topic, people will respond to it; if it's spam it'll be ignored and drop to the bottom of the topic list.

If the Mods are that worried about it causing trouble, then why not create a temporary 'Polls' sub-forum under the Lounge just to try it out for a while.

Oh wait, without replying...
Trust me, not replying is generally the best idea.

But I'd say yes, because 90% of the posts already are idiotic (75% of which I took part in drawing down to my personal hell) and allowing non-mods to use polls probably wouldn't change much.
