Is Blueray a new movie encoding method or what ?

They are transcoded using the x264 codec and stored in .mkv files that are meant to be played on your computer, not on a BluRay player from Sony. VLC Player works great, as long as you have a decent computer. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Note, it is BluRay, no -e. And these are also available on public trackers. Search BluRay or x264 to see HDDVD stuff too. The quality is fantastic on these, so check them out.

the most common sites för hd material are hdbits.org, bit-hdtv, hdbits.ro, x264 and scenehd (maybe i left someone out but these are the ones i know of)..

EDIT: Wops, i noticed now everyone of these were already covered. sorry :)

Who has the most selection, and the best?

the best one is definitely hdbits.org, but it is also the toughest one to get into. then i think bit-hdtv is number 2, but i'm not a member of hdbits.ro or x264 so i don't know about those.. but hey, i'll throw you a pm!

They're all about the same really.

I think hd-bits.ro has open signups at the moment while the others require an invite.

Why do some blurays have 40gb file and some like 4 and 6gb?
I don't get it!

If you see a 4gb to 6gb file then it is not a true Blueray movie but instead they used the blueray movie as its source to encode it to a lower resolution.

If you have any other questions regarding Blue-ray or HD-DVD then I would suggest you check out http://www.doom9.or http://www.videohelp.com for more info on these formats.

Well the resolution can actually be the same (there are many encodes in 1080P) but the bit rate is always different of course.

well not really no they're not the same at all. scenehd only has scene releases for obvious reasons (they have some nice packs too), hd-bits.ro has a good selection but can't be compared to hdbits.org, which has far greater a number of torrents and they're much better seeded. hd-bits.ro has a more generous bonus system though, so it's easier to seed if u don't have that great upload speed.

Sorry off topic....but can anyone recommend me a good movie joiner software for the movies i download.
I would prefer one from a private tracker, but a free one will do just fine if u can't find any.

Thanks!

These Blu-Ray rips are only watchable on your PC. As for them being the standard give it another 5-10 years.
