Why some trackers have a few * instead of letters ?

because they want their names to stay private.

welcome to censorship

some tracker do not want us to mention their URL or even their name and thus comes * into play. Moreover, FST doesn't want us to mention their URL/name if tracker doesn't want us to.

What?!
And here I was thinking they actually had asterisks in their names. :frusty:

Yeah, I think that I could refer to every torrent site without using an asterisk and not break rules. Most sites just have rules to refer to the site with it's abbreviation or nickname.

I think it caught on because if you try to type the whole name of the tracker here, the tracker gets asterisked out. And people just started doing it.

Then again, I'm not a member of every site, so I can't exactly say that's true.
Most sites that are THAT picky about it, don't even want to be mentioned here at all, so maybe people think they're abiding by the rules if they make the name harder to distinguish.
