I moved the router and modem, for house re-organisation porpoises. I've done the wired network thing now so it matters not a jot where they are.

Anyhow, they are in the same room as my PCs now so I've connected them directly to the router and the other stuff in the house is connected via the mains.

I can get download speeds of over 1800 KB/s on usenets, fucking mad talk.

I need to try downloading something from BenTorrent to see what type of speeds I get from that.

When are we getting the zillion gigabit superfast highway thing that they were talking about...

....and will my Ahkter 386 handle it?

I leave wireless connections on the Laptops but disable them. However there are shortcuts to the wired and wireless connections on the desktop. So one just has to right click and enable / disable as appropriate.

How fucking anal is that.

Virgin are providing 50megs sometime this year.

They have realised that one of their big things is the fibre optic connections which can do that. I think the max on copper wire is about 16.

I disabled all the wireless functions on my router as the missus doesn't like my porn travelling through the air in the house. :pinch:

If you live in certain parts of London, where the virgin broadband service saturation is high, Virgin limit your usage to 400mb a day. If you go over that, they drop your speed down to 'trickle'.
This is to insure a fair service for everyone apparently.

Mother of all broadband. Bollocks. :snooty:

I thought it was nearer 25Mb depending on how close you are to the exchange :eyebrows:

They're laying new fibre optic cables down the sewers which will reach speeds of 100Mb i think, but only on new built houses

There's a small part of Shoreditch that get's 2gb/2gb connections already. True story.

We still use wireless for No2's computer and PS3 and No3's PS3.

For some reason No2 and No3's PS3s doesn't like the DeVolo but are cool with wireless. No1's XBox 360 is the opposite it likes wired but not wireless. He loves the speeds and got 20 consecutive kills on COD4 last night and was really impressed with that

I haven't upgraded No2's PC to wired yet as he's being a wee cunt just now. Not to me like, to his Mam. Before you ask, I'm banned from deploying the cuntpunch as that would upset her more.

We get limited, but it's like if you go over 3 GB, the speed goes down to 5Mb between 1800 and 2100 or something like that.

I complained but it was just for a laugh. I like to keep them on their toes.

I like to abuse my internets, I wouldn't stand for that. Some days I use upwards of 100GB.

I just complain because if one does it properly one can negotiate discounts.

I complained about a few things and cancelled my Direct Debit I now pay via the gift of online banking.

When I did this and even after paying the £5 they charge for not using Direct Debit I'm paying about £30/month less.

True Story.

Piss off. The missus is a cheap prick, like Ben. She went with a company called Watch TV (for our interweb) to save money.

It's a line of site microwave service - it sucks bawls. I get about a half a meg down on average, ffs.

How could they turn up the speed of your router.

By remote control from Bulgaria. Fact.
