Hi

I will be moving into a new house. I need Telephone, Broadband and digital TV services in my new house.

Can you tell me if I can get all these services from one provider, or do I need Tel & broadband from one company and TV from another.

Can you recommend a company that provides all these services in UK.

Do I need a BT line first in the house?

I dont fully know the difference between Sky and Cable.

hope u can help. thanks

The sky is upwards and cable is generally under the ground, like.

If you jump up and down 50 times on your kitchen floor, you can get free wireless broadband.

After that, the internets is your lobster, friend.

Be there or be somewhere else.

Well, you can get free digital TV without subscription via FreeView or FreeSat (one-off set-top box and an installation fee)

Don't fucking sell your soul to the cunts that are SKY, is all I'll say.

I've got BT, and I have to say it's pretty stable

The speeds are crap though (which is why I can't recommend them), but I am quite a long way away from the exchange.

It is stable, though.

nah my speed is pretty decent i have an 8mb connection, but ive had so many problems, we've had to home hubs, we've had the egineers round to take alook at our phone ports and ive made 7-8 to there bastard technical team and they dont know what there doing.
Are you wireless or plugged straight in the wall?

wireless

I bought a dirt-cheap wireless ADSL router from ebay (called an ovislink Airlive or something  ) and it's been bloody brilliant - 2 years without any problems. touch wood

You get a more reliable connection with a BT home hub.
It says so on the TV so it must be true. They wouldn't lie.

They tell me there's no virgin up my street. Not any more. :naughty:

The BT Home Hub is the single worst piece of equipment known to man by most accounts.
I was reading an article in PC specialist about it. They recommended the best fix for it was to bin it. I agree.
AllenS had one and it was fucking awful.

BeThere is a great ISP if you download a lot. I said that in my second post. :eyebrows:

It does need a BT line tho' and speeds vary depending how far you are from the exchange and the quality of the wiring in your house. Virgin secretly limit you to 400mb a day (More so in areas with a high broadband concentration).

I get the lot thro' Virgin and like it.

what about limits on your connection?

I find with BT that it's not so much about how far you are from the exchange than what time of day it is.

I get the full 8 megs from about midnight 'til about 1pm the next day. All the time in between has wank speeds.

Still, the Home Hub is alright, like. I've got two ethernet and a wireless connection running off of it and it's not altogether disastrous.

Aye, AllenS had that peak-time capping problem as well. Doesn't the connection drop out on your HomeHub then.
AllenS had to turn his off at the plug about 10 times a day. As a consequence of that it would lose all his port settings and his BT client would be unconnectable. Nub.

Yep, I expect to switch it on and off again at least once a day like.

Which is a pain in the bollocksticles.

Since I stopped using wireless for the PCs I haven't had to reboot either the router or the modem.

Home networking over the power cables is the win.

I still use wireless for the laptops and PS3 but they don't worry it, probly because they aren't downloading
