View Full Version : uTorrent 1.8 Has Been Born!

Theory11
08-10-2008, 10:15 AM
Yes. Finally. After a year of development, 1.8 has finally gone stable. The main major feature added is Teredo and IPv6 support, but there's a slew of smaller features, changes and improvements. The changelog is absolutely massive, so check it out down below.

For those with "HTTP 400" error, that is a problem with NOD32. Please disable IMON or upgrade to 3.x.

Other major features are bypassing the Windows system cache (see the Disk Cache settings), significantly improved proxy support, and magnet URIs.

anybody know for a fact which trackers are or arent allowing this. i just dont want to have to keep switching back and forth because of stupid new exploits being found on software that hasnt been tested well enough.

Gee, what a big change log......though I bet most of it means nothing and it will be the same beyond minor bug fix

azaurus still has waaay more features.

Geez, it has been developed for a year with a large amount of beta testers, why do you think it's buggy?

I've been using it since yesterday morning and it's actually really good.

and still, no official webui that works with Firefox 3, or Safari for that matter.

Firefox 3 isn't that good anyway. The dictionary is fucked up (everytime I write a word with an apostrophe in it such as "can't" or "won't" it says that I misspelled it) and after you type a certain amount, spellchecker stops working.

And no addons work for it. None, at all. All of the good ones were left behind at FF2.

The only reason I still have FF3 is because of the awesome default skin.

most sites have allowed 1.8 they have even allowed betas and rc

atm only SCA (SCC) havent allowed yet since it was not stable untill today,so there will be also allowed soon or it already is.

utorrent 1.8 is great piece of software :)

SenorBubbz
08-10-2008, 02:39 PM
What is Teredo?

A little google search told me what I needed to know.

But whenever I click the button to install it and it gets greyed out, it comes back a few minutes later. According to the changelog that's not supposed to happen if it's installed correctly.

I don't know what FF3 you're using, but mine works perfectly, and all addons. Thats not the point though, why wouldn't the webui work in FF3 (been out a month) or Safari (been out forever)?

It lead to hashfail for those downloading from peers with that ver. I had to stop one of my torrent because I have such a high hashfail (2x the size of the file; about 4BG).

Nice attitude. Suppose everybody thinks that way, how do you think stable software will ever be developed? :(

But the point is: utorrent staff are lazy, always have been. Either that, or they are extremely slow.

How much do you pay for utorrent? The utorrent staff did not fulfil the contract they made with you? Sue them.

They are a legit corporation now, it's their job to keep making utorrent.

Corporation or not. As long as I don't have to pay for something I don't complain. At least I would not call them lazy. IHMO feels not right.

It's just a matter of time until what I said happens and everyone goes running to Vuze (azures).

And Vuze is open source. Something I really prefer with applications like bittorent clients.

i think utorrent is the way to go as always because it uses very little memory and i dont know how they do it but simple is always the best and it doesnt get any more simpler then utorrent.

Edit: Can you guys help and list the sites that you are using utorrent 1.8 that would be a great help.
i think bitmetv is allowing it

I've already switched to Halite. Almost every tracker accepts it, it's more lightweight than uTorrent, and it's open source. Plus the interface is very uTorrent'ish. So it's not really that hard of a transition.

Actually the uT devs already released a new version patching few minor bugs. It's still 1.8 but the build changed from build 11742 to build 11758. So if you downloaded 1.8 yesterday, re-download it again. :)

Now there is a minimum interval (available in "Trackers" tab) to update the tracker (minimum interval given by the tracker), so you can't hammer the tracker from 10 to 10s.

I recently upgraded to the latest build of uTorrent, after it randomly crashed (first time ever), and then magically appeared with an update notice as soon as I ran it again. :shifty:

Can't really notice any differences performance-wise, design is a bit different, tray icon has changed of course. I haven't read the changelog or done anything except download and seed a torrent on it yet, so if you're just an average torrenter who just does the basics, I wouldn't feel pressured to upgrade, unless trackers start disallowing the previous uTorrent.
