View Full Version : Seedbox with Good FTP Speeds

My download speed at home sometimes reaches 900 KB/sec from good servers and well-seeded torrents. And yet, of the two seed boxes I have tried, I only get like 150 KB/sec downloading via FTP. This 150K business is just too slow for practicality, though. I've got a laptop so I can't leave the system to download all day.. I've got to take it places. That's why I have a seedbox in the first place (aside from boosting ratios), because I can't download from my home PC.

To me, the most important part of the seed box is the speed I can download from using HTTP or FTP.

My question is have you guys found any seedboxes that give you close to your max download speed when getting files from it? I'd be willing to take half my max speed, even.

use FlashGet (or any other dl manager) so u can split to threads so u will have better speeds..
that worked for me at least..

FlashGet would work for you, but I would suggest using a new client, CuteFTP by Globalscape. Its a very good program, nice UI, and supports multithreading. (what you need)

And then you'll download the file in say.. 4 pieces. It puts them together at the end and you usually max out your speed.

for me my per connection speed seems to be 80kb no matter what server i use so i just put 8 connections and now i usually max my connection out(6mb)

OK, thanks. I think that will solve it for me. I'll try it tomorrow.

If your seedbox is hosted somewhere in France, and you live in the USA, speeds aren't going to be 900kb/s, most likely.

Try using 3dftp as it's multithreading kicks ass.

I tested FlashGet and I got like 400-500 KB/sec. Definitely an improvement. However, it seems like there were only 5 connections. This seems to be a server-side bottleneck. Or is 5 the max I can hope for?

I'll try another client, like the 3dftp mentioned above, and see if that makes a difference.

Also, the server in question is in Malaysia, so that may be the problem. 500 may be the best I can hope for. Still, though, the 500 is a major improvement on what I've been doing, so I'm already out ahead. Especially since this seedbox is free :)

In addition to using a ftp client with good multi-threading, you may look to transfer files 4-5 at a time . That means 5 mini pipelines being divided by 5 , which will make the download faster than if you try to download one large file.
