Hopefully this won't be the end of CO... but if it is, we've still got Secret Cinema, and we can simply move our forums here (or elsewhere).

If Cinema Obscura dies then it will be very tragic.

Oh NO! Motis was such a great mod, loved his attitude! Site was great too,a lot easier to keep a good ratio than KG,hope they come back, doesn't look likely though!

Assuming CO is really down for good, can anyone suggest a good alternative? I'm on KG which I use for most of my indie/obscure movie needs, but it was good to have a backup/alternative. Any suggestions?

Cinematik (all dvds)
CG (mostly for so good they're bad movies)

Goem is a nice choice too.

Why would it be tragic.

I'm also sad about the loss of cinema-obscura (CO). A quick question: what are "KG" and "CG"?

IMO KG is the best tracker for old movies.

KG is KaraGarga, and CG is Cinemageddon. The former is like Cinema Obscura, while the latter contains movies that "are so bad they're good".

Thanks! I registered for Cinemageddon. Unfortunately, KaraGarga and Cinematik are by invitation only.

No problem :) I'd invite you to Cinematik if I had an invite, but I don't.

Goem, PtN, Cinematik. If you have those three plus KG you won't need anything else.

Motis pulled the plug .
The forum was pretty much uncensored, with one massive exception, that being don't criticise the country CO was hosted in . There'd always been people who wouldn't / couldn't accept this, they were normally dealt with pretty swiftly . In the build up to & during the Olympics however, things started getting a bit too fraught, people kept pushing & pushing . Obviously they pushed too far .
There's a CO Survivors Support Group forum in existance, which is actively looking at getting CO relaunched .

CO is dead ... Their staff started a new tracker named Tv-Vault .

You've been fed duff info ....

TV-Vault is the sister site of CG ( Cinemageddon ) & has nothing to do with the currently defunkt CO ( Cinema-Obscura ) .

imo KG is all you need for repertoire stuff, 45000 torrents or so

Grind$oFine
08-22-2008, 07:22 AM
KG has pretty much all of the torrents uploaded on CO, plus a lot more.
The benefit of CO was the fact it's really easy to seed - whereas KG is somewhat trickier.
But really, in the long run, it's a lot easier to put more effort into KG than it is to try to maintain two ratios.
CO was definitely a nice tracker though.

http://www.cinema-obscura.com/
If you read the home page, it explains why they're down at the moment and also states "There is currently an effort to resurrect CO in progress."
So I don't believe that they're gone for good.

Apparently there was some drama because they are hosted in China and they had a rule about not criticizing China which wasn't enforced well enough on the IRC channel or some such thing.

I just hope they don't send the sysop to the same place they sent the tank guy, the iphone factory girl, and Zhang Liang (rower who got disqualified for missing an event).

Sometimes one must sever an infected limb in order to preserve the body.

CO could not die, it is something too interesting in torrent world! I had 3 invites to give from CO! I don't know much about KaraGarga and Cinematik but CO was the best for me, good and rare movies, easy to make ratio and no dead torrents!

Is it anything to do with the Chineese holding the Olympics?.

naszdom
08-30-2008, 03:49 PM
It is clear that the only alternative is KaraGarga which is of little help to Cinema-Obscura members since KaraGarga keep their doors permanently shut unless someone can persaude them to relax their stance for ex-CO members.

Is it anything to do with the Chineese holding the Olympics?.

it has something to do with ppl talking about china before, during and after the olympics had they have had the chance. so yes. or no.
it was made very clear to everyone when signing up to C-O that the server was in china and their could be no debating china politics and such, people went and did it anyway repeatedly, sysop just had enough. can't blame him really because some relation set up the server for them there. and you know em commies:naughty:
or so I've heard

CO was a real sweet heart of a site. I wasn't there for too long, but I loved it. It made it easier for the obscure/indie movie fan in me. KG is great, just as good - if not better - than CO but harder to keep a ratio.
