What.cd has 60-90 categories with lots of content.

Also try TheMusik.org.

Well Waffles has a better selection of older stuff than What (which tends to have just loads of dupes of newly released albums), but soulseek has about 50x more than Waffles.

Soulseek would surely quench your thirst for older stuff if you have right connections there and you're ok with the odd transcode.
It really opened up my world of music,it's seriously the most amazing p2p software I've ever come across, give it a shot.

A while ago I grabbed Billboard top 100 for each year from 1970-2007 from Usenet and some ramdom trackers.

That's a lot of music. 100 songs per year.

The pirate Bay has the Billboard Top 100 for many years as well. But the rapidshare forum I found has everything form 1960-2006.
Oh yeah I can't remember where but I also found a collection of 80s music from Time Life and it was 23 CDs.

Edit

Also Demonoid has a bunch of Billboard Top 100 collections.

will it be possible if you could upload the collection you download to a public/private tracker

I can't cause I went through the collection and deleted the songs I didn't like so it became so much smaller. Demonoid has a lot of years. Between demonoid and TPB you should be able to get a lot of it.

This is so true. Whatever you can't find on the trackers, Soulseek will more than likely have it. It's really a great software.

Well, I haven't used too many other p2p software. I used Limewire for a few months before I got into bittorrent. Then I tried emule once or twice.

But limewire was extremely slow. And you can only download one song at a time(at least back when I was using it). Most songs would download at a few kb/s. And that just sucked.

With Soulseelk you can download whole albums at a time. And even choose what bitrate you want it in. There's usually a wide range of bitrates, and even FLAC's of whatever you're looking for.

And it downloads moderately fast. From my experience I think the fastest I've downloaded at was around 200kb/s. Speeds aren't always that fast, but you can usually grab the albums relatively quick. Faster than Limewire for sure. Just make sure to open a port so you can better connect to everyone.

Also, setup a folder on your desktop called Soulseek(or something). Then all the stuff you download from Soulseek, just keep in that folder so others can download it too. This is sharing after all.

It's a really good program. I download most of my girls music from there to not ruin my ratio and my music sites. Give it a try.
