I'd personally have to go with the original "Woody Woodpecker" - Man, i grew up with him. He was my childhood idol. I'd love to get my hands on the original episodes.

The new ones they make absolutely suck.

Now, i just watch The Simpsons all day. :D

Anyway whats your fav. child hood cartoons you'll never forget?

Hi,

My favorite are Scooby Doo, Smurfs, Woody Woodpecker, and Tiny Toons. Also, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, they were the best, the new one they have now is a disgrace to the Turtles legend.

I have a few favorite series, Scooby-Doo, G.I. Joe, Transformers(the comic books were always better though) but my favorite of all time is one most of you have probably never heard of...A single short movie called 'Rikki-Tikki-Tavi'(1975?) by Chuck Jones.
Gawd how I loved/still love that movie. About a mongoose rescued from a flood who ends up protecting a family from two evil cobras. If you can find it, it's a classic well worth the time. I watched that movie SO many times when I was young....

The old Spiderman cartoons were my favourite.
Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can. That one.
And does anyone remember Fangface?
This kid who looks at a picture of the moon and turns into a werewolf.
Takes me right back does that!

Has to be 'Transformers'....ok it looked a little ruff around the edges and most of the time (in the UK anyway) it was on around 6.30am (but what kid cant get up at that time)..but it was f***in great..And then we got The Movie, and the animation improved partnered with a Soft Rock soundtrack (Bliss!!)....Saying that, my own kids r now into the new range of toys/cartoon and boy do they look crap....Ahhhhh the 1980's the Golden age of Animation :D

You know, I love to read, but never even realized this story was from a book. Was the name of the book 'Rikki-Tikki-Tavi'?
BTW Chuck Jones, if you don't know, did many of the 'Tom and Jerry' cartoons, he's a legend.
Sort of on the same subject, one of the 'ask yahoo' questions was who starred in the most movies? Mel Blanc was among the tops because of all the voice work he had/still is doing. A true class act.

Transformers
He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe
Scooby Doo
Tom and Jerry

These I absolutely loved to watch. I even got a big box with a lot of those Transformer and He-man action figures. Those were great toys, but playing with the Transformers was sometimes a little problematic, because transforming some of the robots could take a while. Some of them were pretty difficult, for a kid.

But now, I'm going on thirty and I still love to watch cartoons. Some of my favorites are now:
The Simpsons
Dragon Ball Z, but not Dragon Ball GT (this show sucks bigtime)
Rocko's Modern Life
Hey, Arnold.

But most of the time I just watch whatever cartoon is on tv, because almost all of them are pretty funny....

But Dick Dastardly and Muttley were used in several cartoons from Hanna Barbara(or whatever they are called) like Wacky races, so I'm not completely sure

Yeah thanks thats the one I was thinking of.

Optimus Prime was the original leader of the autobots (the good guys)...he died in the movie only to return later in the series *in the re-birth of optimus prime*

I used to see a cartoon in my childhood called Giant Robot.... it was just gr8... dunno why the hell they removed it... its was just irresistible...

One more favourite cartoon was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.... used to rush quickly after school got over to see this! Dunno why the present young generation have become such pussies to see such damn good cartoons....

The Popeye show was also one of my favourites. Then came scooby doo....

Now i see some mature cartoons :D B)

I remember sharkey and george, that was on at like 7am british time, captain planet sucked ass.
What about rude dog and the dweebs, I thought that one was crap too, but i think it must of filled a gap in the cartoon schedule, cos i watched quite a few. Mask owned, I had the car that shot out the little orange disks, best toy ever.

Hey my brother has that car too, And I have the MC that turns into a helicopter, but my other brother, the bastard, has the base.

But I guess that's ok cuz' I've still got my Gijoe/Action force stuff, 50+ figures, 1 airplane(conquest x-29), 1 fourwheeled bike, one boat, one cobra tank and, of course the big base/tank thing, saved for ages to buy that one.

And then there's my he-man collection and my transformers...

still have everything in packed down in boxes. :D

Life was great when all you had to care about was getting your next figure.

Anthony

Wow, wish i had all those, very few of my old toys are still around but i know i still have my old grimlock and T-bob from mask (the little robot that turned into a moped, think thats what he was called!) and captain planet had to be the worst cartoon ever, he always saved a forest or a poor village, and what did the heart ring do? Also i dont know if anyone else remembers these, there was a cartoon too but they was little actione figures with a hologram on the chest that when you rubbed your finger on they showed either fire wood or water, like rock paper scissors. or did i dream those?

Nice one. Just what the country needs.
Another mucus covered, piss-taking alien.
Gilbert was cool. Utterly disgusting. There was nothing like that for kids before he came out. Very similar to the humour in a short-lived kids comic called Oink!!
Anyone remember that?

Uh yeah. So was the PJ's and Roughnecks.
Tell me is the Muppets a cartoon. No it isn't.
Is Teletubbies a cartoon. No it isn't.
Was Big Bird a cartoon character on Sesame St. No

Now there was a Fraggle Rock cartoon in 1987 which ran for 13 episodes.

Now THAT was a cartoon.

I can vaguely remember a show from when I was a kid called (I think) Terrorhawks. It wasn't a cartoon, I think it was a Jerry Anderson Production. I just remember these little sphere robots and cube ones aswell. On the end credits they would play noughts and crosses! Oh and I think there was some fucked up deformed brother and sister in it aswell... they used to scare me!

looks like all of us grew up in the same era! oh yes, thundercats!! my all-time favourite! also he-man, jungar and grendiser (early 80s japanese cartoons, after this all jap cartoons just looked the same to me, and that includes anime...sorry anime fans..:), beep beep (road runner; never into bugs though), oldest tom & jerry, popeye (thanks to him, i love spinach now!).

i know these aren't cartoons, but anyone remembers Air Wolf, A-Team, Knight Rider etc.?

The Tom & Jerry cartoons from the 1940's-60's were the best.

They had their charm, but suffered from lack of variety. Somewhat similarly, Elmer and Bugs had recurring battles, but Bugs had more charm and depth than either T or J. They never split up (Bugs had Marvin, Daffy, and Taz...as well as Sam and Porky), which shows their lack of greatness the way Looney Toons had.

I doubt Tom and Jerry deserve a spot in the top 10, tbh...

Watching them now probably wouldn't be the same as when I watched them as a kid. Compared to the cartoons (for kids) of the last 20 years, they are much better. The old Looney Tunes were great, except for the subtle (or not so subtle) racist stuff in them. But what do you expect from older white men in the 1930's-60's.
