Is it actually possible to get movies or samples with a 1024/768 or superior resolution size?
Then where? <_<

why not just set your resolution to 800x600 when you watch the videos? will look alot better.

also, it's VERY rare that you will find a video in 1024 resolution

I doubt you could get XGA resulution, PAL DVDs are encoded at 720x576 and re-sizing it would make it look horrible. :x

I have seen files that big around but the files sizes were huge. The problem with it is that there were hardly any sources b/c of that file size, only one guy had it and if he wasn't on you just sat and waited.

Yes, that resolution would be no good it would be all streched out if u need a large resolution I'd advise the one Amarjit posted (720x480/576) 576 is for pal so if u live in the united states most likely u have a ntsc which is 480

seeing as dvd's are 720x576, i would think it isn't possible to get good quality at 1024x768

i fail to see the logic of this post
if the quality of dvd's is excellent, then surely a higher resultion would be better picture quality, rather than worse (depending of course on encoding bitrates etc)

1024 x 768 DVD rips are shit... they just don't exist.

if you find one, i'm sure it's just a resized video, and if the original dvd video is 720x576, you can't get better quality than that.

it's just like getting a .jpg picture in 800x600 and save it in 1024x768. you'll lose quality AND the picture won't look any better.

if you reencode a divx (or xvid) movie to resize it to 1024 x 768, you'll lose quality AND the picture won't look any better either.

But why can't I even find some 720 x 576 resolution movies ?

I think what he means is that if you rip a DVD to 1024x768 the quality will be bad because the DVD was originally at 720x576, and it isn't possible to increase the resolution of something while retaining the quality, regardless of the encoding bitrate.

Basically if the source (the DVD) is lower than 1024x768, then what's the point of increasing it to something higher? It's like getting a cam release of a movie and playing it fullscreen rather than at 320x320 or whatever it was encoded at.

If, however, they made DVDs at a resolution like 1152x864 then making a rip at 1024x768 would be no problem..

Warner Bros. made a 1000x540, high-quality trailer for The Matrix Reloaded. It was right around 97MB for 2 1/2 minutes.

That's comes out to 4.56GB for a 120 minute long film. ;)

anyway, this is not in the standards. play a 1000x540 movie on your regular TV and it'll be no better than a regular dvd movie, because regular TV's don't have sufficient resolution to notice the better quality.

that's why VCD/SVCD look so better on your stand-alone dvd player than in your PC -- the TV resolution conceals the glitches and imperfections of the lower quality encodes.

Yes, there is no such resolution of 1024x768 on DVD's and if there was going from a smaller resolution to a bigger one would always give u worse quality so going from 720x480 to 1024x768 would be just horrible.

this was what i meant
if the manufacturers produced higher res dvd's then the quality would of course be better
