quality looks great, but when i tried to edit it using virtualdub, the status showed it having errors....

I've found it a very easy to use program with great results. I haven't had any problems with it yet, but unless you have a fairly fast PC you may find it takes a while to encode movies (but then this applies to nearly all movie converting software).
