:flame: The Ring remake sucks compared to the japanese film! it is about ten times less scary and not to mention that in the the japanese version you dont see samarah at all!!!! why do they all ways have to ruin a bloody good film!!! if you ask me it was better not knowing what was killing them off than seeing it at the end, at least the japanese knew to save it till ring 2! after i watched the first ring i was shit scared and not just me so were my mates and that takes alot to do, afterwards you couldn't look at a t.v with static on it for at least a week!!!!! But oh no lets make it again but this time only american style so it in english { fare i cant complain } but then lets make the storyline weeker by showing samarah and let you see her face!!!!!! that didn't happen in the origional!!!! you only saw her long hair and an eye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd have to agree, Japanese director Hideo Nakata who made the Ringu has had his other movies: Choas and Dark Water set for American remake. These movies are not old, from the last year or two. It, to me, conveys American film-makers think they can do it better than other countries, be it Spain or in this case Japan.

neither the American or Japanese are exactly like the original, because the Japanese version was different from the book. The Korean make of Ringu is quite true to the book.

Anyway, I think it's better to subtitle movies which were already greats as they are. The japanese culture, locations and directing are all of course unique to them. This is what makes the movie, just as martial arts make many of the HK and China films. Since the martial arts tallents and style is unique to China's locations and so forth, means other countries just get the movies dubbed or subtitled. So i think this should be the same with Japanese. A movie made to be based arround a countries culture and area should not be remade into something completely different, since the plot was tailored arround where the original was set.

So yeah, to re-phrase, I think foreign movies which are classics should not be remade as changing characteristics of the movies (in this case culture, directing, location) changes the feel of the movie and in exteme cases it's message.

Well I think they should be remade. Not all of us want to watch a subtitled movie that is undoubtedly foreign.

Right On!!!!!!!!!!!! ezyryder if they keep on doing it not only will people think that the origionals are bad they will try and remake everything so they dont have to watch it in subtitles or so they can relate to it more coz of the surroundings. and that will kill off some damn good movies!!!!

Its ok if you just want it in english but you have still got to keep the surrounding story and feel of the scenery in place otherwise you are ruining a pefectly good film.

dubbing it to english would screw it worse than the remake. You can get all copies of the ring/ringu on emule if you wanted to, becareful of rasen/spiral though as it has the most sources but it'll never complete as it has a lot of corrupted parts...find a different alternative and you should be ok.

In the remake they twisted it a little because the horse scene not in the original ringu. All i can say is do not watch it with the lights off the ending gets you big time if you hooked. but the sequel for me is better, it definitely more scarier

thisiswhoweare

too confusing for me though... ringu was more simple yet suspending. B) but ringu 2 still kicks monkey butt

09-14-2003, 04:20 AM
what will get me is what the hell they will do for the ring 2, if it not to be like the original. surely they not go along same like as the first one. i say more coming out of the tv and killing more, that would really make it cool

thisiswhoweare
09-14-2003, 04:23 AM
more coming out of the tv isnt new anymore....it wont do much other than have you expect it...personally if they did a good remake of the sequel then it should be good. Since i know a lot of people wont like to read subtitles...esp my friend who won't watch ringu because of it...kinda daft if you ask me.

The Horror fanatic
09-14-2003, 04:32 AM
when they do sequel they need the girl to kill more it that simple, and it would be a plus if that did happen. maybe put in some twist where the tv come on and so on, but they run or something but she there ready and waiting for them. The way she go across the floor should would be great. Al it takes is thinking of some way to twist it a little to make her kill more and not have to use her coming out of the tv all the time, like what was done in a way with the sequel to ringu

If the do Ring 2 they might make it the same way as they did the ring which was to screw it up and make it less scary. I think the ring movies are good as they are and hollywood should keep there greedy mits off them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm I just saw The Ring on Cinemax.
This seemed more like a mystery movie, because it didnt seem scary at all.
I say they shoulda made the ending longer also.. It didnt make sense! Like when the girl comes out of the TV, they should've had her stay in the TV instead, whilst he's watching her looking down in a paused state.. Then suddendly she should look up! He jumps and moves to his right or left side .. She turns her face and looks at him as he moves !! Slowly... stareing at him.. slowly as he's having a heart attack he's so scared.. then she could like.. start to give him pain.. in his head! lots of pain! till it kills him.

ehh.. maybe at this point she couldve:

started to live in his body... out to kill! the other watchers! in his body!
just walk out of the tv and kill others herself. (lame)

Here's stuff i dont understand:
How'd.. what was his name.. That little boy talk to the "daemon" girl? (heh i dont remember the character's names in a movie sometimes... i focus to hard on the storyline)

What was that girl a daemon anyways? What the hell.. the movie gave birth to a daemon? Mother was a daemon? wtf?

What was up with the Man at that Mountain Motel place and his card trick? That was a waste of the movie.. had nothing to do with anything lol... i thought it did at first.

This movie reminds me of some of the goth girls at school who allways stare at the ground..

Special Effects Ruin the movie... a classic film would have done what i said above.

now, gatta go watch the japanese version .. or the "actually scary version" as some of you put it.

I was freaked as hell after watchin the ring
first horror movie since a long time that really scared me
my girlfriend actually got me to pull the plugs on the TVs and the vhs that night
have'nt seen the original though, but now Im gonna do

however I think they should've hidden her face and until the last couple of scenes
a twist in the end that makes your spine crawl is the best effect to end the movie
so that it feels like its real

I've seen The Ring and Ringu and I can't people think the Jap version was better. It was rather tame in comparison. When you the girl fall out of the car near the beginning that didn't scare me at all. But when you see the girl in the closet (American version) with that face now that was freaky :(

if you have seen ringu and ring 2, you will notice that in THE RING they actually take a little from the 2nd as well. they went more in depth than in the japanese original. ringu is a classic, the 2nd is even better, the remake was good enough for me and i just wonder what the hell they will do for the sequel? As far as i go i would not like to be in that guys shoes when she did come out of the tv, if you were their you would be spooked out too.

Yea.. also that part were she's noticed that fly on the moniter at first.. I knew that was gonna be all real a stuff, but it wasnt the first time.. Then that time she played it again on that Studio.. It Was Real as she paused it! Freakin.. Freaky.

btw, who started this "Magic" curse stuff?
Was the daughter a Witch or Daemon or something?
I thought the mom was a mystic blackmagic woman at first.
Heh it was weird how that video tape was the future.. and the ring wasnt actually a "Finger Ring".

if you can, watch RING 0:Birthday. if you watch it close it like the daughter actually has her mother in her eyes, literally. it really was freaky when i saw that. that one shows you how it came about and what powers she had. It the prequel of course to ringu.
