If you love movies and games Bittorrent is #1 ,irc is good and so are newsgroups.

What are newsgroups? too....

newsgroups distribute files by splitting up files into 14mb subfiles......u get some software 4 it e.g. from download.com and then use various sites to find the required newsgroup that has the movie or whatever you r looking 4

i can't use them cos i live in a hick town and use a hick adsl service <_<

Warez means getting the programs, movies ect for free, there are alot of sites who call themselves warez but alot are just scams where you vote thousands of times, sign up to porn sites and get a dead link for your troubles.

The only good warez is from forums and a few sites, where they have direct http and ftp links.

I would'nt consider k-lite to be the best as it lacks a few features like error correction and partial filesharing, but it's good for newbies.

The best depends on what you want and when,

Newsgroups are good but only if they have good retention rates, ISP's tend to have poor retention rates but you can pay for ones on the net which are far better.

Bittorent is quite good but it rely's on having seeders(people with the complete file) and the tracker(the main server/computer cpu), both of which can vary which also means your speed will vary as well.

At the moment i prefer to use Shareaza because you can also use ed2k links with it on the three main networks it supports g1, g2 and edonkey.

there are others out there... other builds?
which is the best of these?
also how long should I seed what I've finished downloading?
I have 2 seeds right now and they have been done for a while I don't wanna stop them but i would like to get more files,
when do i become too greedy? B)

I use nova torrent, however it is not that good, it crashes alot on me. I just have not got around to switching it. alot of people use burst or some new experimental ones. Reality well recommend shareaza for a catcher.

As for seeding basically as long as you can ofcourse, the kind of unwritten rule is atleast 2hours - however the more the better.

AtmosOC
09-16-2003, 10:31 PM
I took your advice Todd and got nova the speeds seem to be better and I hope it doesn't crash on me... shareaza is my next try... I guess I'm just searching for the best out there... thank you for your help.
As for seeding I 've had these 2 for about 6 hours I guess I can stop now :P

I hear there are private torrent sites out there is this true?
if so how do you get there?

There are as much as you like, maybe if you really want one ask for it and it will be served... ;) Biggest advantage is that people help eachother finding files, and your sure you can finish the dl... Also the average speed is most times higher then on regular sites.. Well actually it is a real nice group of people sharing.

just because a movie we are seeding isnt posted in the k-lite thread doesnt mean it isnt being seeded, we have lots of seeds and they change to often to keep posting them

The best Bit Torrent site is Supernova at: http://mbnet.fi/suprn0va/list_news.html. (this is a mirror)

Also check out: www.muchwarez.com and join the forum. They have a lot of movies.

Other sites of interest are Ebola Virus Crew: http://erb.evc.to/. Also Cool Gio at: http://coolgio.org/forum/. These are warez sites but they carry movie postings as well as software.

i get most full music at Suprnova. I just started a download on shareza, im gonna try that in a couple minutes, havent tried it before, kinda nervous of new programs. If i like it ill let you know. =)

UPDATE: So far im really likin shareza, cool gui like winxp or something and fast searches.

What i dont get is why they show Ip of ppl sharing, like the host. Is it the real ip or fake to throw ppl off?

I now have 3 programs i like.. so im gonna get busy. =)

Did you get the experimental version of shareza I couldn't get it to connect to any of the servers... It lookrd cool, yes. Searched good, yes. But I wasn't to pleased.
So far Bittorrent and K-lite are my favorites but I'm always looking for the newest..
Thanks again keep me updated LaVANANo... I want to see if I should give it another chance. B)

Dont believe the hype shareza isnt anything worth merrit ,they have just ripped off Bram Cohen to use bittorrent to make money.
They dont even know what their doing with bittorrent.

nahan
09-18-2003, 01:20 PM
I use ex 321 Eike Frost's version, sure the shadow 5 series has nice options along with the other fab 5 counterparts but if it aint broke dont fix it.
I get my physical top speeds.

I dont see alot of improvement as for the ram comsuption goes, because with each of those clients running at full bandwidth speeds they use roughly the same amount of resources.

i don't think shareaza is out for money. It doesn't have ad- or spyware, and the developer (one guy) isn't a company, it's more of a hobby project...

i agree that the BT implementation could be better, but it's still in beta, and i kinda like the idea of an integration of more then one network in one app...

NotoriousBIC
09-18-2003, 09:18 PM
All true.

The only problem I see with it, is that you get a 'bloated' client that uses too much resources.
Haven't used Shareaza for a while though, so I can't judge about that.

Jonne
09-18-2003, 10:27 PM
I think it doesn't use unreasonably much resources, considering it does have 4 networks, multiple searches, partial sharing, a decent hashing system, ...
it uses more then kazaa, but it has more features too...

NotoriousBIC
09-18-2003, 10:37 PM
Hmm, more than Kazaa eh?
Well for somebody who doesn't need the other networks beside Bittorrent it can be too 'big'.

However, if you share on all or most networks I can certainly see the advantages.

Cyril
09-19-2003, 12:10 AM
One problem I find with Shareaza is that whilst there may show lots of sources once you have downloaded a large percentage of file you can struggle to the balance. This is because most of the sources have been completing partial downloads, so now most of you all have the same parts and are all fighting to get whats left.

In saying that I like it. It's very user friendly, and have been able to find files on there that I had been looking for on KL for ages.

LaVaNaNo
09-19-2003, 12:00 PM
yeah i uninstalled it cause all my downloads were like 400 hours plus, so i got bored fast.

It looks good, the idea's great, but after searching all the networks I still can't find the file I'm looking for (Scrubs S2E07 My first Step). I realise this is probably cause noone is sharing it... And it doesnt seem to be on kazaa either... Damn...

I'm having problems finding really good torrent sites... and with .cue and .bin what are these file types? something about a cd?

NotoriousBIC
09-23-2003, 12:26 PM
bin/cue is a CD image standard, just like .iso for example. You can burn them with any good CD-burning software.
Alternatively you can 'mount' them using Alcohol120% (or Deamon Tools). This creates a virtual CD-Drive on your PC where the images are 'loaded' to instead of physically entering a CD into the drive.

http://www.btsites.tk lists a lot of Torrentsites.
http://www.suprnova.tk is currently the biggest one

AtmosOC
09-23-2003, 05:05 PM
BIC,
thank you again... I'm still trying to get this .bin .cue think working... so if i just burn both onto a cd it will then play?

NotoriousBIC
09-23-2003, 05:16 PM
Nope.

In Nero you'll need to use the option 'Burn Image' (under 'File') and the point it to the .cue file.
Both .cue and .bin have to be in the same folder.

I used SoulSeek for a day, and I did not like it at all, the GUI was rubbish and the network's pretty lame. Shareaza will always be the best for me and I occasionally use eMule (Plus), of course I still will have KaZaA++ installed for the rare MP3 only to be found on the FastTrack Network.

suprnova.org doesn't work anymore. Use the following address:

http://www.suprnova.tk

edit: oops, you probably mean that the torrents aren't working. Try right-clicking the torrent and select 'Save as'

Ok, the best was audiogalaxy, and I still hope it will reopen again...
... I wish it would be back.

But if you search for a file or music, be sure to try out these:

1) Kazaa Lite K++ ( http://www.kazaalite.tk )
2) SoulSeek ( http://www.slsk.org )
3) Imesh ( http://www.imesh.com <-- similar to Kazaa)
4) Audiogalaxy User Groups, yes you can still share files directly
between Users of AG. But you cannot use main search function,
which was the fastest. In Usergroups, you have to make a request
for being a member and than ask the User who has this file directly.

thanks anyway, david.
