Problem Solved

A while back, there was some site, categorizing statistics, info etc in wave time line form, whether it was about history, politics, movies etc

Their style of presenting info was through this type of visual style.

crappy attempt at their perfection

Very very close, but with statistics
each wave is an information flow.

I did a wee google and found this.

The Stream Graph – stacked graph layout

The resulting graphic is a stacked graph. Each colored layer represents a musician, progressing from left to right through the eighteen month span growing wider when listening was more frequent, and skinnier when it was not.

The layout method is unique, dubbed a “Stream Graph,” it acts to have the least amount of distortion to the graph and is responsible for generating the elegant non-symmetrical curves. For more information about the Stream Graph, read the whitepaper.

Epilogue:

Response from wife for our combined efforts :

"This time-space diagram is ”stolen” from Rem Koolhaas SMLXL book 10 years ago, where Gro Bonesmo (wife of Gary Bates) made a diagram for a project showing the different program uses of a city complex transformed into a timediagram like your example. I will show you later"

ffs
not even a thank you, for offering inspiration on a project she needs help with.

In an effort to help ze loved one with a mega project in which she has to "describe" the entire project for clients, i thought some recent design ideas which relate closely to the project might help.
What else are lovers for?
