when i am trying to install red hat linux and when it is about to boot into the graphical install the screen goes garbled and then goes into standby mode

i am running a MSI GeForce FX5600 256Mb card and a KTX BM17E Monitor

im guessing the refresh rate is set too high and your monitor cannot handel it.

im not sure what you can do about it though :huh:

you best bet is to find a linux forum and ask there. :(

If your having that type of problem then dont install it in graphical mode.

When it brings up the welcome screen and you see a prompt that says boot:

type "linux text" (without the quotes) to install it in text mode.

After its installed youll have to configure Xfree86 manually by editing the configuration file since your video card or monitor may be incompatible. Also check to see if your card and monitor are listed on red hat's compatibility list at their site. Red hat 9 genreally has better support and drivers for more modern hardware than the previous versions of red hat. :)

it looks like i'll be have to install it in text mode then.

How do you even install it, I put the CD in and it did nothing..?

you must have not burned a iso image. You may have burned a data disk.

Your pc is suppose to boot into the installation screen from your cd-rom. It has to be put in before anything else is booted. Its not like a windows installation disk, you cant pop it in from windows and install it from there.

also make sure your BIOS is set to boot from CD rom before it finds any other OS (if you are dual booting) ie check CD before HD.
