I got an old computer with data on it and i want to transfer it to a laptop, the old computer doesn't have a network card. Could i transfer the data through a serial cable? If so what would i do?

use the serial cable and go to the "files and settings transfer wizard in xp" and select the serial port or cable method to transfer the other files to your other pc.

Are you running Windows 9X ?

Look into Direct Cable Connection in windows.

And use a cable that joins the parallel ports together.

I've never tried to connect between XP and Win9x so I really don't know.

As for the speed, does it really matter? You are not going to do this often I hope. Isn't it just to tranfer some data?

I don't know the specs of the tranfer speed but it goes quite fast. I can only say that it takes a few minutes to tranfer the contents of a CD.

i thought parallel connection would have been pretty slow compared to network.
