My Ip/info

Hi, some of you must have noticed that some users have a sig with a pic that says
"You are using "OS" your IP is "whatever", etc. How is it these things are so simply detecting my info? Do you think a firewall would block such a thing? It's kind of creepy that they can tell that so simply...
