I need DirectX 9.0b version. I downloaded it off of http://www.microsoft.com but it will not install for some reason. Is there anything that I can do? The game (Halo) needs it but I cannot update it.

Sorry bot, wasn't sure, because DirectX is a component for a game, so I thought it went in gameworld.

Well, my version of XP is a legal version. I may know the answer though, have you installed Windows XP Service Pack 1? If so, that could be the cause.

How (for free) or will I have to buy a new one, and it's not because of my Video Card

WindowsUpdate.com will not work for some reason due to script errors
And, I cannot install it, I had no prob with any other DirectX I think it is because of my Service Pack, which I cannot get rid of

Just do as topgun396 said.Download the full package instead of the webinstaller.

DirectX 9.0b is included on the HALO CD. It installed fine for me.

Yeah, I know, but my computer wont accept it for some reason.
I also went to the link TopGun said and downloaded it.. but I couldn't install it.. like I said before, it says on the microsoft home page, that I cannot install DirectX 9.0b because I have the service pack 1, which for some reason will not let me install it and I cannot get rid of SP1.
I may have to get rid of everything (but backup things I want first)

Well I have Service Pack 1. It didn't cause any problems.

Have you updated all your drivers? Get the latest drivers for your motherboard, soundcard and graphics card, and then see what happens.

It's strange that you're getting a message about service pack one, as it will certainly not be the problem.
