Don't click on just any link as your IP can be shown to the message sender. An example would be this one:

http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/images/icons/icon13.gif
*****DON'T CLICK!!!*****

http://i46.tinypic.com/2ik4mw.jpg (http://oac14.pcriot.com/ratio/tvsh00t.jpg)

*****DON'T CLICK!!!*****

Check it using the CODE tag and it should look something like this:

//oac14.pcriot.com/r/tvsh00t.jpg"]http://i46.tinypic.com/2isk4w.jpg[/URL]or copy it don't press direct

Notice there are two links? The one in blue is the one that collects your IP and red one is the link to the screenshot.

one for ip and the other for photo

There are also TinyURL links that look like TinyPic links. You can check them the same way. Example:
*****DON'T CLICK!!!*****
http://i47.tinypic.com/eiqps.jpg (http://tinyurl.com/ydf9s)

*****DON'T CLICK!!!*****

Check it using the CODE tag and it should look something like this

A few tips:

- Don't give screenshots of your account to new members. You can use a middle man to do your trade(s). http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/../images/smilies/smile.gif

- There are also scripts that can get the ID of the accounts that the screenshot was taken of. http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/../images/smilies/ohmy.gif

Sites like iTS and others do this. Not all do it, only a few.

So, be careful when taking screenshots of your accounts.

If I remember anything, I will add it here. http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/../images/smilies/naughty.gif

And to all you trade hunters: YOU CAN'T GET ME! :Phttp://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/../images/smilies/no2.gif

My God, I never would've realized this if you hadn't posted this. I will be careful from now on and never click on links before checking them out (Hopefully I remember).

Thank you for this useful advice, SH00T. I think this should be stickied. :cool:

It will definitely help out new/old members to avoid being fucked by tracker staff or whoever is collecting IPs. :yup:

Sounds to me like SHOOT has lost an account or two. You will probably lose many more to follow as well. When will you ever learn? Your wasting your time man!

This can be quite interesting to be discussed, on a technical point of view.
I'll had later some more contents.

Please, everyone who has messages with IP catching links, do report them to us.
In the PM there is a report button like this http://filesharingtalk.com/vb3/images/buttons/report.gif, click it and we will get a 100% accurate report.

Yes, i got one of those links by a PM recently..
but i still wonder, how will it help Tracker staff if i have a dynamic IP ? ;)

Using a dynamic IP will help you avoid some security problems as well ..

Also, less related, but still helps, try NoScript Addon to firefox browser. this one might prevent cookie theft by clicking "hijacked" forum links.

Can't people message you with to make it auto load the image?

That only loads certain type of images I assume. Although their has been exploits to image formats in years past.
If it was possible to do what your suggesting, people would be posting those images like crazy in the trading section lol.

But This can be easily done by posting a link, which links to another site that steals you ip...

Such as a hyperlink that says "ratio proof" but really links you to www.stealyouriphaha.com
I know how to do it very easily but you need your own website to do it my way...

If you want to stay anonymous then I would suggest always using an online proxy server and then go to your link.

You can disable images here.

User CP > Edition Options > Show Images

That's a good answer, but for people like SH00T you know that the answer is no. ;)

Yea it definitely would be, that's one of the reasons you wont find me in the trade section, but I guess people really want to get into sites so bad that they are willing to risk the security of their computer. Im here to learn this was a great topic. I definitely learned more about how people steal ips,and precautions to take. This was a very interesting thread.

You do realize pretty much all sites keep a IP history logs for each account, right? Even with a dynamic IP, if they get one of your IPs you've used on the site, they can track you down.

That only loads certain type of images I assume.

As of my last check, browsers still downloaded the "image".

I've just noticed you can't hotlink to images on PMs, which is a great move. However, you're able to link to pictures from any hoster when posting in the forums, which is great for trader hunters. Furthermore, there's no dereferer in place, which lets tracker staff know exactly where you clicked that link to their site, as well as make attacks like this "IP-catching links" easier, as by the time you click them it'll be too late - whereas dereferers give you a few seconds before really loading the page.

And let's not forget the CSS Leak, which can be used to "read" your history. They've been using it to detect SB-I and T-I users, and I don't see why threads on FST's trading area can't be next.

Cabalo

Is that CSS leak the one you can avoid on FF by disabling the http_referrers?

anon
12-29-2009, 05:02 PM
It takes more than that. :happy:

On Firefox it's as easy as disabling history, or using an addon called Safe History to prevent FST from entering it. If you don't want to disable or install anything, just use an anti-leak user stylesheet:

a:visited{
background: none !important;
background-image: none !important;
list-style-image: none !important;
}

And disable JavaScript for trackers (via NoScript for example).

For Opera I'm not sure if disabling history works, but if you use the custom sheet and BlockIt addon you should be protected.

Yeah this thread will start some shit fur shur. Way back when I had found such a link and banned the member for it. An entire "5hitstorm" ensued because of it. ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD will come of this thread.

Now it is way easier to simply not trade. Not to mention keeping in with most site rules. You have all sorts of site staff looking here for this exact reason, hating on FST members for this exact thing. Shitheads from Top-Hos and such, so guys please be careful.

I'd like to say it again. This thread is a bad idea. It's one thing that people trade on FST, a thread like this is another. I'ts basically becoming a manual on how to trade without getting caught.
