my speeds are usually fine with zonealarm running, but now, my speeds are 0kb/s. should i keep firewall running when dling to keep the bad ips that i added to zonealarm out of my comp? should i just turn it off and use peerguardian? and u can allow ports 6881-6889. i've asked this millions of times, and no one answered my question. how do i allow the ports 6881-6889 in zonealarm? and that guide that people post doesn't tell u shit bout zonealarm

n/p glad to help
I have giving him links and tried to walk him throe it several times, can't believe he still doesn't get that you leave the firewall on and just configure it, guess he needs someone to physically come over to his house and walk him through it

zonealarm is really the idiot proof program to use so if you still dont know how to use it i dont know what to call you...

just allow it to access internet and server rights, it works perfectly fine for me

oh and btw if you use a router you need to configure THAT, not za <_<

I have the internet zone security set to medium so I shouldn't have to do anything else.

can u or anyone else confirm that i have to allow these ports in the frwall? and how come shadow's exp uses 6881-6999 when the guide said they go to 6889?

This is from the guide that u said didn't say shit about ZA.

ZoneAlarm Pro v. 3.5.166
ZoneAlarm Pro is a popular software package used to perform basic packet filtering and other security-related tasks. Here is how we got ZoneAlarm to work with Conference Manager:

Doubleclick on the ZoneAlarm icon in the system tray, navigate to the "Firewall" section, and then to the "Internet Zone Security" section.

You can proceed in one of two ways:

Set "Internet Zone Security" to "Med.".
or

Leave "Internet Zone Security" set to "High", but adjust which UDP ports are allowed past the ZoneAlarm firewall/packet filter. Click "Custom" in the "Internet Zone Security" area, scroll down to and check "Allow Incoming UDP ports", then enter "15900-15999" (omit the quotation marks, but include the hyphen) in the associated text input field. Click "Apply".

Why would BT use UDP ? Using UDP means you don't care if the data gets through completely or not, and that's not quite what you want now is it ?

Have you ever thought of reading the FAQ for BT? http://btfaq.com/

Prior to version 3.2, BitTorrent by default uses ports in the range of 6881-6889. As of 3.2 and later, the range has been extended to 6881-6999. (These are all TCP ports, BitTorrent does not use UDP.) The client starts with the lowest port in the range and sequentially tries higher ports until it can find one to which it can bind. This means that the first client you open will bind to 6881, the next to 6882, etc. Therefore, you only really need to open as many ports as simultaneous BitTorrent clients you would ever have open. For most people it's sufficient to open 6881-6889.

Now, which part of this do you NOT understand ? (and yes, that's from the guide about setting up BT with your network)

From what i've read, i'd say the following -

Open TCP
Do !!not!! open UDP
