Man I'm fed up of trying to encode movies, a yr ago it wasn't a problem, things were nice and simple

Now with the damn intro of AC3 audio in movies, damn it can't take it anymore.

I've tried, and always failed, can you guys please direct to failproof prog\site\guide\etc?

I'm hopless at this lark, sort me out plz, and another thing, I've heard about Kvid, but can find anything when I do a search about it, wot the heck is it? Is it an easier way to make a vcd?

Thanks guys, as you can see I'm seriously frustrated, it dunt help when family and\or my girlfriend man to watch a film on their dvd players.

Sheesh!!! Help out a fellow "dunt know nowt" guy!

Thanks again :( :( :( :( :o <_< :(  :( :( :o

kvcd in my sig
you need to use tmpgenc to convert all your movies
you need to have the correct tmpgenc settings
you need to remove all the bad frames BEFORE you try to convert

tmpgenc in my sig
remove bad frames with this
http://divxrepair.sourceforge.net/
match you settings to these, don't worrie about any you don't have, whats important is what you do have

get a better computer, I can make a kvcd in about the same time as it take to encode a reguler vcd/svcd
I think your problem is that the prediction was trying find the proper bitrate to get the best picture in one disk, some time it takes awhile, but not more than a hour
how long does it take you normaley to encode?

ya i got fed up wit encoding 2, untill i relized my good ol laptop had tv-out, i figured out how to use it and its always been good...taking to friends and watching movies w/o encoding was awsome...tell my laptop died, RIP......

if i was you id spend a few bucks (probly like 50) on a cheap vid card w/tv-out...althought the memory on the card wont be alot, like 64 its still good....trust me man, you will love it...

now i have a badass rig,(sorry, i just love this thing :D )

I've got an ATi 9700 pro, its pretty much upto anything you throw at, tv out and stuff like.

But! The vcds are for my family and my gf's family
so the TV\out (which I already use) aint that much help. On a laptop I can see it being amazing, but thats alot of money needed!

Man its soo annoying, just about managed to sort out my first AC3 movie, checked it out, but the damn audio is out of sync damn it! Argghhhhh!

like I told you, you must remove bad frames BEFORE you even think about encoding

rather having TmpgEnc encode the audio, you can use a program like BeSweet to convert the AC3 file to MP2 and downsample it to 44khz.

then encode the video with TmpgEnc, and use TmpgEnc's Mpeg Tools to mux the video stream with the audio stream that BeSweet created.

oh, i've just thought of something-- this happens in rare instances, but on some DVDs the studio logo that plays before the movie does not contain any audio at all. when you encode such a movie with the studio logo included, it can throw the audio out of sync because the encoding program begins the audio during the part that should have no sound.

if this is the case, you'll have to demux the audio (save it as a separate file), figure out how far out of sync it is, then trim that much off from the beginning of the video. don't be surprised if the part that you trim out ends up containing precisely the part where the studio logo is displayed. then mux the audio & video again, and they should be in sync.

this may not apply to your problem at all, but i have dealt with a few dvds which required this solution.

With the way my efforts are going, I think the easiest way is to go to the movies....

As soon as someone makes a program that says:

Select file to make DVD/VCD
Insert blank disc
Burn
Finnished

I'll jump for joy.

its not really an option for most people....in that its a bastard having a 5 mile long cable stretched from my house to my gfs, in order to watch a movie over there.

anyway, go to kvcd.net and get ACP (theres a forum for it) this will take any avi and extract audio/convert/etc to a nice vcd/kvcd/svcd for you. then use vcdeasy to add chapters and burn...simple

Flaskmpeg can make it as vcd, but you need to find the panasonic mpeg encode file, wich can be a bastard to find sometimes. but that program never failed me for vcd's.

flaskmpeg only becomes a problem when you want subtitles, because some scenes will be missing them.

Thats exactly my problem, thats why I need to be able to make vcds, I already have tv out on my comp, I've a got a ATi 9700 gfx card, but slogging my pc about is out of the question. Buying a laptop is also outa the question.

But yeah, thanks for all the help so far, I'm gonna check out that Kvcd site, sounds interesting.

Cheers

 Well then start jumping, because there are already programs that do it like this. Try Dvd2svcd from http://www.dvd2svcd.org. This program does everything in one run. All you need to do afterwards is to burn the shit to either cd (as vcd or svcd) or Dvd. Installing the whole thing takes you like 5 to 10 minutes. After that just select the avi-file or the dvd you want to encode and the program will go through the whole process by itself. Works great for me.

after isntalling the gorden pack my codec and stuff screwed up.

also none of the programs that are included in that pack are good for converting from dvd/ifo to avi, they all have there little problems.

i still havent found a good simple way to make a freeking dvd into avi.

They're still expensive!!!!

£60 for a transmitter and reciever.

and a further £40 for additional recievers!

No thanks, thanks for letting me know, but they only transmit a limited distance, the one I saw transmitted 100ft indoors, and a max of 500ft(gf lives vfurther than that).

Cheaper to encode, I'm sure wyou will agree?????????????   ;) :D
