'The first rule is. Tell EVERYONE from CN that CN is BACK. The second rule is tell them to KEEP their TORRENTS. Third Rule is follow through with the first and second rule like a mofo.'

Words from staff:

<@TheDevil> we need to install the old back up
<@TheDevil> and then work on a few things to make site stable
<@TheDevil> then once it is
<@TheDevil> we will start inviting back users
<TycusFindley> give it atlest till after christmas

--------------------------------------------------------
Why do you think? Are they being a bit contradictory? Is a new project using cn mark/status?

Burnsy

If it's true, good luck to them and I hope it works out...

I know it can be hard just letting go of something that's probably taken up a lot of their time and effort over the years, so if they do it I hope it's a success :)

We have managed to recover a 1 year old backup of the database

So the reason CN went down was the same as FTWR's?

Anyway, I second what Burnsy said. :)

I look forward to seeing CN again. I was seeding a torrent when they went down. I loved that site also and I'm eager to rejoin.

indeed, CN will return
for updated info join irc

Channel: #cosa.nostra [without that dot]

PS: cosa.nostra filter should be removed from FST

No, they don't, necessarily, have to, do no such, thing.

I don't see why their old "login links" system can't be coded to work on a Gazelle frontend.

Which is what I think ringhunter means, except with much less commas.

I deleted all the torrents I downloaded from there because I watched them and saw that the tracker was dead. FML.

Update: One of our coders has been gone for a bit due to Internet problems and is now back. Even better he has a backup from September...So we are in better shape than originally thought!

sounds cool, but that is tbdev backup and the new version if of gazelle.

It's perfectly possible to migrate to a different frontend while keeping the old site's database. Look at TorrentVault or even What.cd itself.

I'm excited to see this come back. Simply because I really like the TBH releases. I'm glad it's back though, I still have many of the movies from there :)

I find this funny mainly because of the fact CN's coders took the time to develop:

a permanent seeding system
an advanced user promotion system based on activity
a beefed up browse page
a detailed torrent details page
and much, much more

Just try to prove me wrong. If they had the time to code all of that, I'm sure they can migrate to a different code base.

I can't login, so i figured i've mistaken my username/password and try to recover it but it says that the email is not in their database and i'm positive that the email is right. And i can't connect to their irc server. Dunno why, since i'm not an expert on irc.

Can anyone confirm if the site is working ok?

That worked, thanks. I'm on their support channel, let's see what happens... :P

EDIT: So, it seems the site is under development yet and when it is 100% working, the old members must have their account details in hand in order to register in the new site. I've been told that the site could be working on late January.

Thanks for the info. bumrocks said they had a September backup, so unless they managed to get their hands on a newer one, I suppose people who signup after that month will have to reregister when CNv2 is up.

well, it doesn't really matters for anyone who really loves cn. The most important thing is getting cn back not the term 'how'.

Glad to see the front page up! Their staff was so devoted to that site that it was a huge surprise to hear that it was closing without further word. How many other sites have we seen go down without current backups? Just a thought, but there might be some lessons to be learned from past catastrophes....

Suggested New Year's resolution for site staff: back up your sites monthly so this doesn't happen.

It's possible. It's FAR more likely to get seen if I make the comment, versus not making it anywhere. :D

And who knows- they've gotta be doing something instead of not backing up their data like they should.

I think you want to be invested as FSTīs teacher to hide deficit reading or something.:lol:

There's good spam and bad spam. It's the difference between normal offtopic conversation that you'll see going on between the regulars here and posters who sound like they are either A. a bot (uses lots of smileys and short script-like sentences) or B. someone who speaks entirely through a bad online translator.
