1. Upscaling by itself is almost unavoidable, at least for me anyways. I watch 720p encodes on a 1440x900 screen, therefore my player upscales the picture. If only a DVD exists of a movie, almost everybody with a modern-day TV will experience upscaling. To upscale an encode on the other hand, is bad.

1. An upscale indicates that nothing is currently being weighed. After the Holidays, this is often a good thing.
