Its birthday was yesterday. I believe the staff, its creators, and valuable members deserve some community recognition and respect for their longevity and success.

Thanks to everyone involved! :w00t::w00t::w00t:

FSC? Is this that rare tracker? That gives you .10 ratio on each torrent for every 24 hours you stay connected, so basically to achieve to a ratio of 1:1 you just have to stay connected 10 days, without sending a solitary byte. Man thats more retarded than BCG's SP program.

If retarded means their staff realized BitTorrent wasn't meant to be "ratioed" and thus looked for alternate ways of making sure things worked out, then yes, both are as retarded as hell.

Doing it before anyone in the game and loving it. Congrats to my beloved FSC! seriously for those that dont know, FSC is def not for everyone, its for unique individuals with a unique set of principles. 10 days is nothing to most who are seeding for years. I would like to congratulate everyone involved with the FSC experiment from the staff to its members.
THANK YOU for giving me a home for all these years!

Heres to many more years to come!

10 days is not asking that much, I've seeded some torrents for many months (5, 6, or 7 months ie). Did you actually mean years? I'm not sure if thats a typo or what, thats pretty damn cool if some members keep their torrents alive for that long. Then again, I guess its not that much different from emule where files have a lifespan longer than most household pets.

The thing is, we don't ask members to seed, we inspire members to seed.

Sounds daft, doesn't it, but we have members who genuinely seed because they want the community to prosper, and that is what makes fsc special.

It is also good to see DV8 becoming active again, after a long period of absence.

That's pretty cool and I commend you for it. Must be a great community there.

Most of us aren't members though so we got to deal with what we got. And what we have are a lot of trackers that have crappy retention rates. It's especially bad for the common 0day tracker that gets all the new scene releases and nothing much else. Unfortunately the vast majority of trackers are the general 0day type, so you'll find the same issues at most of them like older torrents being poorly seeded or dead. Or if whatever your looking for was never released by the scene or a p2p group it may just not exist. Really sucks when your looking for an old show or movie and you can't find it so you end up having to go to warez-bb or emule. Fortunately there are places like KG, cinematik, and some others that specialize in older movies and movies you won't usually find at other trackers.

The same problems can still happen at those trackers too, it's up to the members to decide how long they are going to seed something and eventually most torrents will die when the seeders lose interest in them. I know you can always request a torrent or a reseed if you need it that badly, its just not something I feel comfortable doing too often. Besides, requests won't always work if your whatever your requesting doesn't exist on somebody's hdd anymore. I guess thats real reason DDL is so popular and emule is still being used, for the most part nothing ever dies.

The phrase "forest for the trees " comes to mind here.

Let's not get carried away .Change the statement to "we have a few members who genuinely seed because they want the community to prosper , quite a lot who do so to appear proper in the sight of the staff and the community at large and some who don't really give a fuck " as do coincidentally pretty much any other site and it would be nearer to the truth.
Those people who actually care but are largely unsung should be applauded everywhere , not just at "special places" like FSC.

Btw I'm not trying to slur FSC here but seems that you are either not giving some other sites enough credit or FSC too much.

The key to getting in there is to know someone who trusts you, and can give enough details about you to show that you could be potentially interesting/fun/valuable.

Following general rules of civility is expected- that includes being respectful in forums, as well as seeding, etc. Probably the biggest problem facing (most sites) would be members who get in, then don't contribute. With a club like this, there is an expectation that you will bring something to the site.

My advice- get involved on your favorite sites. Join in on the fun, the discussions, maybe even throw around some projects you are interested in. Then do them. Get to know people who share common interests some of these people may be able to conjure up an invite (usually granted as a favor return, etc...

Good luck- It isn't difficult IF you are trustworthy, active, interested, and interesting.

Btw maybe admittedly bad form on my part and overlooking the fact that mine is but one of several "off-topic" comments but the only one deemed necessary to nit-pick at, sadly I'm pitifully poor at treacle.

Anyway , Happy Birthday FSC :yay: inanimate object impossible of either delight or regret, I hope this small symbol of my appreciation warms the coddles of the place your heart would be .

PS On the other hand, true appreciation to any and all that have given freely of their time or themselves in maintaining a place that is obviously not just a "job" or a "hobby" but rather a true labour of love.

Oh, you sly, you. :shifty:

The key to getting in there is to know someone who trusts you, and can give enough details about you to show that you could be potentially interesting/fun/valuable.

Might simply be my being stupid blinding me to this, as usual, but you can't really "trust" anyone online. Especially not on a piracy website where the spectrum of people you can meet stretches from the side of "Out to sue my ass off for grabbing his copyright work" to "One of the people that are going to get sued and take down everything with them, eventually." It's commendable that FSC survived for so long, and that they pick great (?) members who keep their requests/retention ratios high, but at the same time, I really hate it when someone makes it sound like (especially in BT) a site can have the best possible members when it's locked down, or the fact that the pedantry when picking and choosing their members or how their invitees use their invites/referrals will actually promote venerable decisions (when all sites from all lvlz, do in fact know better), when the very fact that you're online and have never met the people you "trust" leads to a different conclusion.

You can always argue that there are still people with emotions, opinions, dreams and lives behind the computer screens you're trolling; but then if you're such a person that readily opens up to people he's never met, I'm sure you'll have no gripes tipping 100% at a restaurant the next time, or taking the time to explain to a crack dealer that you know his childhood mustn't have been easy. Just because you're online doesn't give you an excuse to be nicer/meaner to people you normally wouldn't (people you haven't met), but it does give you several reasons (research source (http://www.4chan.org)) to not trust people. Don't get me wrong, though, I'm not set on this opinion and I'll welcome to counter-arguments (and I've tried to keep this civil as this is a birthday thread after all); but please, don't throw in anymore "But I do trust the people I invited as I would trust my neighbor in real life" quotes. It just screams "idiotic".

Verbose way of stating the obvious- we don't fully know people online, so we cannot "trust" them. I would take that further-into real life, where people lie, cheat, and steal from those they know and/or work for.

If one fits into the structure, it is likely they will be invited into the site when their name is placed in the proper thread.

Personally, I can think of 20 names I would risk accounts I enjoy/use daily based on my familiarity/comradery with some members here. It isn't foolproof, but so far I have not invites any "total losers". Even if someone who is known for taking care/responsibility with their invites makes qa mistake- if they are valuable themselves, it is unlikely they will be punishe4d for their error.

Haters ? Someone is not allowed to give their thoughts in a reasonably polite manner without being referred to /thought of as a " hater " .
Jesus H. Christ .

Forgive my frankness but as you so used to having your ass kissed that you can't take anything else as some sort of personal insult to be replied to in the most ignorant way possible .
And forgive me for also thinking that and not any real, discernible hatred might be in actuality the true reason that you "don't come around here anymore".

Btw the thing that I like least about the site in question is that so many members are quick to talk the talk but very few for far as I have seen , actually walk the walk. :ermm:

Even if someone who is known for taking care/responsibility with their invites makes qa mistake- if they are valuable themselves, it is unlikely they will be punishe4d for their error.

Well your first point restated what I mentioned before. You shouldn't treat people online any less or more cordially than you would a person you aren't acquainted with in real life. So I don't see why you should use words like "trust" and "risk" when talking of something arguably much less than a friendship or relationship (obviously different with the way you define a friendship, but before you ask - it's when I do something with a person that involves both parties going out of their way or the context in order to be around one another, that I consider myself and someone else friends). However, I do really find it silly when people argue that they can fully trust people online (the same people that share who they are with people online thinking it couldn't possibly go wrong).

Would you trust someone online to keep your wife and kids safe when you're away on a business trip (provided they offered to move into a nearby motel to attend to your family's every wish)? Then you don't "trust" them; and they aren't your "friends". Unless you define trust in a different way than I do, I don't see why you would associate the word with people online.

so much argument over some silly invite.

Glad you feel that way. I'd act like the ass that I usually am, but apparently people think I'm being just that (or more of a hater, actually) just by being around. So here's to this reply being as offensive as my usual self, minus all the drivel that would normally make it so.

Huh???

Anyways happy birthday fsc and sorry for the off-topic before.

I don't think there's been any haters in this thread, just people discussing things in a healthy civilized manner. No name calling, no personal attacks, just talk and differing opinions. Nothing wrong with that. My initial post actually complemented fsc, my comments were about other trackers in general and the lack of seeders/retention.

Certainly if you've been around fst long enough you should know that threads can quickly become about something other than what they started about.

I wasn't talking about collecting, my whole post was about seeding and retention. But thanks for using this as an opportunity to attack me. I used to think you were a decent little spammer who i couldn't really understand most of the time, but after this post I view you as a jerk. I didn't call you out or say anything out of line in this thread, so what your saying seems completely unprovoked. Next time you request any tracker I'm going to go around everywhere shouting from the rooftops that your a collector, or maybe I won't because that would be a dick move, its none of my damn business what trackers you request, and afaik you could actually be using all your trackers. Speaking of dick, how much of that did you have to suck to become a recruiter for losslessworld. I like your new 'I love flac' signature, and i suppose you really can tell the difference between flac and mp3. Or maybe you just say your a flac lover because its the cool thing to say and it fits your position at that tracker.

And continue to post multiple times in every single thread here especially when your posts are usually pretty short (it must take so much effort to fit everything you have to say into ten words or less) and don't add much to the threads, because collecting a big postcount is so much better than collecting trackers.

Also, to Fart Vader, you know full well that I deserve to be on Mininova, but it's just your own elite stuffiness that prevents you from inviting me, rather than my lack of resume *points at avatar* - I even know obscure movies like Avatar and have it in high aXXo quality because I encode myself using programs like Photoshop and Lame.

Don't be a crybaby, you had it easy, being invited by the staff and all. Some of us have to provide a fingerprint and DNA sample to log in for 60 minutes (security).

You know what the worst part about what a hypocrite scottk is. Just looking at his giveaway thread at another forum, I counted how many trackers he's giving away invites for. I would link to it but linking to other forums is probably against the rules here. It's a rather popular forum anyways so I'm sure a lot of people have already seen his giveaway thread there.

Right there in that very thread is proof that he belongs to at least 26 trackers. 26 friggin trackers and he's calling me a collector (actually 27 trackers because I'm not including losslessworld which he wasn't giving away in that thread). What a joke. Actually it could be much worse than that, those were just the invites he had on hand when he was making his latest giveaway thread. He definitely belongs to even more trackers then that, except he doesn't have invites to all of them to buffer his igiver total with. I guarantee someone like him belongs to some high level trackers too that haven't given him any invites. So that total could easily be over 30 trackers. Who needs that many trackers unless they are using most of them to earn invites to give out.

Actually FST originally stood for Fairly Silly Thing but it was changed since it proved poison to the advertisers. Personally I think they should either change it to HdDbits so people will be falling over themselves to get in or for obvious reasons The Library of Congress.

As long as I get a cool samurai one like the guy in Highlander then I'm fine with it.

On 5 September 1965, the first use of the word hippie appeared in print. In an article entitled "A New Haven for Beatniks," San Francisco journalist Michael Fallon wrote about the Blue Unicorn coffeehouse, using the term hippie to refer to the new generation of beatniks who had moved from North Beach into the Haight. Fallon reportedly came up with the name by condensing Norman Mailer's use of the word, "hipster" into "hippie".The name did not catch on in the mass media until almost two years later, after San Francisco Chronicle columnist Herb Caen began using the term hippies in his daily columns.
