So that I could indulge in my penchant for dishonesty by getting into something that I could lie to the people that had the good graces to allow me to participate in by trading for.

No wait that's you.
I'll go with boredom then.

To get free stuff with my 128Kbit line. I had just moved from dial-up to that, and someone told me about this torrent thing, which looked awesome because you could pause your downloads and resume them later.

collector

teh 1st one to say this directly.
Seriously, for me, my reason was the reason that anon said earlier. I used to download HD movies from very begining. and it is disgusting when download stops (corrupted) somehow due to bad internet connectivity after downloading 95% of movie.

Because of the authorities. Back then seemed a better way to remain anonymous, which has proven to be false. Nothing is more dangerous and insecure than torrenting, apart maybe kazaa...

To tell u the Truth,I was looking for some mature Porn, and I did NOT want to pay for Rapidshare,Megaupload, and Hotfile, -prenium acct.

Since Porn can be in the Gigs, I knew there was a better way, so I got into Torrents, and BTW , the word "Torrenter" seems really Cool and sexy to me....LOL

I thought people Agree for Anal if u become l33t torrenter..

On Serious note when i started downloaded pirated stuff i use to hate copying and downloading from individual links (didnt knew existence of dwnlod manager) and thus monitor my system continually..
hence moved to torrents

I found a unique group of individuals who focuses on having, and sharing, that access to others with the same interests. It is a realm that skirts several laws of "the establishment" for the greater good of the masses. Unfortunately, most of these down loaders do not take full advantage of the materials/media they obtain. No one is hurt by this, but accountants claim damages every time someone downloads a song. Will it get listened to? Will it be liked? Would the consumer have ever purchased without hearing the songs?

Regardless of that, those who have desires- and know where to get them filled, we can indulge in entertainment- movies, music, books, magazines, artwork, comedies, foreign media, and infinitely more....

This is the first bloodless battle for the freedom of electronic information (media). How hard are you willing to defend what we have here? I believe it is worth fighting for. Gather your friends, and look closely at your cause. What will you do for it?

Hah. It looks like yesterday that I read about some invite-only trackers and thought I'd never get on those, because they were invite-only. I was fortunate enough to have a friend offer TL out of the blue on an MSN conversation, however. :)

For a long while, my only accounts were ILT, bG and TL, and those were already too much for me. Lost TL due to inactivity in late 2007, actually. Same happened to ILT on mid-2009. :(

I never thought being a member at this or that tracker would make you a better person in any sort of way, though. I got in torrenting for the files, stayed for the files, and left it because I found a better way to get those files, it's as simple as that.

I wouldn't have paid for most of the stuff I download, that's for sure. If piracy wasn't a possibility, I'd be using Grooveshark to listen to my music and waiting until the latest movies are on TV. Or maybe even go to the cinema, if I hear exceptionally good reviews about a movie (and that's still subjective).

I'm not a torrenter. I'm a file sharer. Always been a file sharer. whatever method/protocol gets you that super rare file you've been looking for for months. Not nostalgically and irrationally holding onto one method longer than it needs to logically be used for, always moving onto whatever is the best at the time. Always will be that way.

And as a result, I continue to use many methods for a variety of reasons. Including of course torrents.

I don't have a love for torrents - for the torrenting method. I have a love for files, sites, communities, people, and an endless fascination for file sharing (and everything that surrounds it) in general. Mostly I find bittorrent irritating now. LOL

It's hard to remember the real reason but there was a definite transition for me between DCC files on IRC to using torrents. Probably something to do with ease-of-use because let's face it, easiest option always wins.

awesome question!

I had tried a couple of times to use bittorrent but it was too complicated for me back then,
but then I saw that the entire Star Trek Voyager series was in there,
so I made up my mind and dove all in.

So in short, I wanted to get all my favorite series.

I could write a full essay into the evolution of me using Bt,
but that is not what you asked.

Also Voyager? Really ? Even DS9 was better than that and DS9 had Odo .

...you were just kidding about the "awesome question" part, right?
Well maybe I misused the word awesome, but I do think it is a good question to make.

Also Voyager? Really ? Even DS9 was better than that and DS9 had Odo .
Yeah, Voyager; although I agree DS9 was beter, as someone said once "it was the best show ot TV (at the time) and no one noticed".
But Voyager had a more personal or sentimental appeal for me, as it was how I was introduced to the beauty and elegance of the franchise.

To be a yar har fiddle de dee pirate. But in all truth, things are so overpriced I refuse to pay for them. I drives me batty that a game can come out for something like the wii and be priced the same as the elder scrolls will be. I pay for things I want to see lots more of and they deserve the cash. I payed for fallout 3 and new vegas on the 360 and Oblivion, And I plan on paying for skyrim. Everything else though.... PIRATE! lol Out of around 400 games or so I have in my collection for all my systems. (Maybe more.) I've paid for around 25-40 of them.

Got tired of all the viruses on other file sharing networks. Someone mentioned torrents to me and it evolved from there. Private trackers seemed to be the way to go to get stuff without the viruses. Another advantage of the Private tracker was to not get the fake stuff. It's an addiction now.

I got pushed into filesharing (Limewire/DC++) by DRM on movies and music. If I couldn't rip my own CDs to make copies/mixed Cds for myself and rip rented movies to watch when I wanted to, then so be it. That naturally evolved into torrents, not because I had any trouble finding the right files using Gnutella and DC, but simply ease of use once the basics were in place.

Not to mention that ordering a CD would often take up to two months to arrive and all video stores combined had maybe 6-7 copies of the most popular new movies. Living in a small secluded country isn't always that great.

why = one reason= greed !! (and kaza was famous for distributing virus)

How= Accidentally :D , read on...

i was in need of a software, my friend told me over the phone that he knows a place where i will get that software & i don't even have to pay for it :P
he instructed me over the phone , go to a site supernova.org ...do this go there... blah blah blah.. now save the file, damn, i saved it was on KB file :( was just surprised how a 100+mb file became kb :P
He told, "you got the whole file but its compressed & encrypted". then he suggested me to go to some some & download the software, bit-torrent, icon is like purple color jokers hat, almost no interface (GUI), and then made me open the .torrent files in that.
He told me that small softwares will decrypt the whole file for me, but i have be connected to internet. .. lolz
