View Full Version : Looking for a place to get music

I have never done much with bitorrent. I use FST just for the xbox30 and dvd NZB files and have never really downloaded anything else.

I am now looking for a decent place to download music from that isnt full of stupid BS and virus infested files. Everytime I have tried to download music I seem to get a BS file or a virus warning on every single torrent.

I have heard of what.cd and waffles.fm but when I go to those site they appear to be private and I have no idea how to join them. At this time I dont have anything to seed but I do have a decent connection and the ability to seed whatever I get 24/7.

If someone could give me some guidance I would much appreciate it.

BTW here is my speedtest:

I have nothing to offer right now ... is that going to be an issue getting into any of these private trackers? If so are there some public sites with decent torrents so I can build up a bit of a library so I can have something to offer?

SoundArea – Huge DDL Forum For Music Albums, Singles & Music Videos

I have been a member of SoundArea for several months but only really got the chance to check out the site yesterday. I signed up long ago as per a tip sent in by one of our readers but for some reason missed out on trying out the site after signup was complete. Since then, I’ve been getting weekly E-mails from them and these usually read something like “300 new albums were uploaded to SoundArea today”. Now 300 albums is quite a lot to be uploaded in a single day - after getting several of these, I finally decided to check what the fuss was about. For those who are confused – SoundArea is not a BitTorrent tracker – it’s a direct download link (DDL) forum. It indexes download links to full music albums, single tracks, radio shows and even music videos. The site is huge, both in terms of user base as well as content – if you download music online, this is a destination you’d not want to miss.

SoundArea is not some newbie forum that launched yesterday - it’s been online for nearly 4 years, since 2006. During these four years, SA has managed to amass a huge user base exceeding 230000 members. Needless to say, activity is pretty high on this forum with over 413000 threads currently online. For a site to attract this many number of users, it has to have something special. SA indeed looks attractive to those who seek to download music, especially as the site indexes several hundred new music album releases every day.
Both scene and non scene content (this includes user uploads added in response to the requests sections on site) is indexed on SoundArea. You can find music related to almost any genre here – in fact the main forum has ~40 sub sections, one each for a different music genre such as Rock, Pop, House, Trance, Techno, DnB, Metal, Punk, Ska and many more. In addition to music albums & single tracks, SA indexes a lot of radio shows and music videos as well. Screenshot showing part of the ‘Genres’ section on main forum can be seen below:
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_GEiY3s3yU4k/TE4Gn5aEnpI/AAAAAAAAKnA/8WV3nOm7UoU/Soundarea%20Index_thumb%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800 (http://lh4.ggpht.com/_GEiY3s3yU4k/TE4GmX-IWFI/AAAAAAAAKm8/Vpy0xQCyzTw/s1600-h/Soundarea%20Index%5B5%5D.jpg)
Something I noticed while browsing the forum was that they heavily advertise their VIP program (you need to donate to become a VIP) – for example, there is a special page on SA which lists all new music releases uploaded in a particular day. Full access to this feature is only available to VIP members. Non –VIP members can of course download latest albums – but they’ll have to discover them by browsing the main index.
As it is customary with DDL forums, SoundArea does not host any of the music files itself. These are uploaded to one click hosting sites such as HotFile and only the verified download links are shared in the forums. These are pretty reliable and I did not come across any broken links so far.
SoundArea has always been a forum that’s friendly to new users – it’s currently open for registration and anyone can create an account. In addition to open signups, SA maintains a good social presence with their official Twitter (http://twitter.com/soundareaforum) and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/SoundAreaOrg-Your-MUSIC-OverDose/166429533514) pages.
Site Name: SoundArea (http://forum.soundarea.org (http://forum.soundarea.org/))
Registration URL: http://forum.soundarea.org/index.php?app=core&module=global&section=registerFrom Filenetworks .I'm not a member of Soundarea so can't really comment on it's usefulness.

Depends on what you mean with "offer". If you're talking about trading invites, then you may want to know most trackers forbid that, so you'd better forget about it.

joshman1204
03-21-2011, 02:23 AM
no I meant offer as in I have nothing to upload or seed. I am not looking to trade or anything like that. I just want access to one decent tracker so I can download some music.

You can always borrow CDs from a friend or the library.

Good luck, although you won't need it if you've read that page, it has everything you need to know.

Is there a certain time when the wait times for an interview are decent? I have been in the queue over an hour and there are people that have been in the queue over 6 hours.

I don't know. You have to be patient. No one said it'd be fast, there's a lot of stuff going on there.

It's completely random, from what I've heard. I only can say I've been waiting for maybe 1h, maybe a bit less, and I entered the chan at ~16.00 GMT.

The wait can be 30 mins to several hours from what I've read so as others have said, so just be patient. It IS worth it however. They have practically everything musical, with ebooks thrown in for good measure.

Not any honest one. If your country is banned, getting someone to invite you directly is the only way in. Did you check the PU forums of the trackers you currently belong to for unlimited What.cd giveaways?

PU stands for Power User.

i have only 3 tracker atm and afaik they are against invite thread ?

Then that's a no-go. Unless you plan to join a more accessible site and ratio whore there to be able to access their invite forum and then join What.cd, I hear that's the cool thing to do. :P

Well waited a total of 18 hours over several different days just to fail the interview ... dont think I really care to try it again. Are there any private trackers that are easier to get into even if they dont offer the same content as what?

Check what you did wrong. Work on that. They have an IRC channel to solve doubts with the interview studying material.

Depends on your tastes. If all you want is mainstream stuff, the music section on any general/0-Day tracker should do. You can also use DDL forums.

Really, do give it another shot. Else, try libble, another private tracker which caters to music, and is relatively easy to get into. Also, as anon said, if all you need is mainstream music, DDL forums should suffice. I've found this DDL (http://afterpre.com/mp3search.php) to be a great source of 0-day music.

PS. If you stay active around here, I'll consider inviting you to waffles.

Don't forget Groovedown. You won't find stuff from the big record labels (The Beatles, Pink Floyd, etc.) there, but the selection of lesser-known material is amazing.

From what i can see they are just to 3 months old and with 19000 torrent i would say IMPRESSIVE. If they hang around for sometime get posted on some blog i see a good tracker. I m so gonna create a new account.

Well I already had an astraweb account but for some reason never thought of using newsgroups for music. It is a little work and some of the stuff I am looking for is not available but I would say 80%+ of what I was is available and the download speeds are nice. So I guess for now I will just use newsgroups until I get this private tracker deal figured out.
