for free 1mbit is too small , everyone has broadband connection nowadays , anw i like the other deal which for only 3 euros you get unlimited speed

PS 3 euros are only for 2 days :P , for 4 euros i can get lightning usenet for a month , or even free with binload

Where I live, 1Mbit and even 640Kbit are sold as broadband connections, you spoiled brats. :snooty:

I'm going to check this out, it could come useful. Thanks for the tip-off, usuck. :)

where do you live btw out of curiosity ? :)

even here the higher speed you get is 10mbit downstream but the lowest is 2mbit after the upgrade of their connections

there are always the ipv6 usenet servers as an alternative

Hell yeah :woosh:

Seriously, I'm using a Usenet app that needs a server capable of handling group headers. The ipv6 servers don't work with that app, and most of the free-servers retention is crap. Binload works, but will eventually stop working (for free) and with this lifetime account, even at 1 mb I have the perfect server. That's why I signed up :)

The retention is fair even if the speed isn't there, but then again it is free so how you say don't count your chickens before they hatch :) It's good to know though that if go broke buying gas that we can still have some decent Usenet :)

@usuck -thanks for the tip :)

Argentina.

There are faster plans (30Mbit and beyond, including FiOS), but the prices are ridiculously expensive. I have 3Mbit and don't consider one third of that to be slow - it could be because I don't download HD movies and the like, though.

Haha

I tested this, the speed is stupid slow, but I rarely download old stuff and have a fast 40day subscription so this is actually not that bad. Just have to leave the computer on for a day to get an old HD-movie :p

Hell for free, I will sign up!! I will just add it to compliment my Astraweb servers so if they start having issues again I got something to back them up instead of having to get a block account.

Had I known that a couple days ago, I would have done the same instead of purchasing a block. Anyway, could be handy eventually.

Website says on Premuim tab page free offer is valid for 30 days. However on the Free Usenet tab page, it says it never expires and is a special. Well guess I will find out in 30 days lol.

Thanks for this. I've set it up as a fill server. Not needed one yet but might come in handy one day.

Yeah, you either get a free service with good retention and bad speed or one with bad retention and good speed. Either way, free is free and I appreciate having it.

Thanks for sharing this with us, usuck.

Excellent find.

regarding the "lifetime" promise:
It's been my experience that "lifetime" --even for paid services -- typically has meant about 1 to 3 years in reality. (NewsgroupDirect's free *lifetime* 1GB/month offer from 2008 didn't even last that long)

But since this 'XS Usenet' deal is completely free, no complaints here, even if I have to re-register every month. Enjoy it while it lasts. :)

Do free accounts last one month only? I didn't find anything about that in the home page.

Anyway, here's me trying this out with an NZB from here... not bad.

I think he was saying even if it does end up expiring for one reason or another, free is free.

I signed up, even at only 100k/sec the price is right as a little backup in case astraweb ever decides to die on me.
