If you are here in germany, you can go to gmx.de :) they offer free email and 10 mb of homepage space - this service is located near munich and very fast ;)
When you request 10mb space you only have to sign an agreement and send it
to gmx by normal mail ;) or fax ;)

If you are far away you can also use http://www.fortunecity.com -
go to http://internet-news.gmxhome.de - that is my site so you can get
an impression ;) there is also a link to my bryce 5 gallery on fortunecity ;)

~nice dreams...

you can pm me if you hosted your page ;)

okay thanks guys, ill try some of those
but what do i have to do? i tried www.dot.tk which is a site that some of my friends have used and it offers your own domain name. however when i go into it it says

Your current website or homepage
In order to send all your visitors to the right spot, we need to know the exact location where your current existing website or homepage resides.

but all i have is the .htm files on my computer, do i upload them somewhere or how do i make a site??

Well sign up on a new host. Choose from the one's suggested above. Upload all your files including any pictures,.htm etc.
You will get an address from this host, copy that and paste it on the dot.tk registration forum.

Dot.tk is a forwarding url service. Your site.tk will forward to where you hosted your files.

Did you upload your main page yet? It needs to be titled "index.htm" or whatever format your page is in. Sometimes it takes a while to activate the domain and everything to get set up. Just wait a little while.

okay, new problem!
When putting a picture on my site should I type where the picture is located on my computer or on the server??
ie
C:\my documents\blah blah blah.bmp
or should i type
http://a.1asphost.com/Weiler/modifiedsnowracer/Steering%20Wheel%20Reinforced.bmp

because i tried the first way and they came up fine, but i doubt they would come up when other people go to the site
however when i tried the second way, they did not come up at all, what am i doing wrong??
and when they dont come up it doesnt show the box with the "x" in it, it just shows as if its still loading, but i left it for a long time and they still didnt come up, sop i dont know what im doing wrong

ScotchGuy

Definitely not from your hard drive, it only shows up for you. The picture destination needs to be where it is on your server, if it's taking a while or only loading half-way try uploading it again. The problem may just be a slow server, you can't have really high expectations when your web host was free.

can anyone tell me what is the source i have to type into my html tag to put a picture on my site?
i am using www.1asphost.com, when im in my file manager there i can right click the pic and say properties, then it says Address (URL) and then a long filename, is that what i type in ------------.---??
someone help me!

ScotchGuy

Example of how to do it, if you upload to the "Images" directory in your FTP and the name of the file is "Picture.jpg"

The correct tag to put into your site would be: Images/Picture.jpg

If you uploaded the picture to the main directory in your FTP the tag would look like this: Picture.jpg

Remember, different editing programs have different .jpg extensions. Paint for example is .JPG while Photoshop is .jpg. Capitals do make a difference, make sure your file name in the tag is exactly like the file name in your FTP directory.

I hope this helps.

Here is one suggestion. Create a new folder. Always store all your images in that. Name it "images". (As also ScotchGuy suggested)
Now create your whole website offline on your computer using WYSIWYG editor like frontpage etc. Use its tools to put in the pictures (as you are beginner this would be a good idea).
Now when you upload just upload the images directory and all the pages. The page structure remains the same so everything will show up.

You don't need to write your whole host name to refer to an image. images/imagename.extention replace imagename by image's name and extension by image's extension. You dont have to worry about all this if you created everything offline using Frontpage.

Once you know what you are doing you can shift to Macromedia Dreamweaver for all this.

Hope this helps and goodluck! :)

ps:Let us know how it went.

this is from another site

www.IBforFree.com

This site is so much better then those other free message board hosters out there. Our site AUTOMATICALLY creates FREE message boards, using the InvisionBoard software. When you sign up you get full admin control over your message board.

Now where our service is different is we provide you with 30 skins and 11 languages when your board is installed, why go with a free message board hoster that only gives you 1 default skin and 1 language and makes you pay to install more??? We give you 30 skins and 11 languages as soon as your message board is installed. You can create your board to talk about anything, as long as there is no warez, hacking or porn talk and linking to such content.

Forums names are going fast so I suggest you signup and grab yours quick. AOL users please do not use your AOL email address when signing up or you will not get your username and password in your email.

looks interesting. How is the bandwidth issue? I had one on invisionfree, wanted to make a quick one just for the family. Even with 15 users it had many problems.

Thanks folks,
however My pictures are still not loading! this is what i used for the code images\GT4.bmp, what is wrong with this?? the only picture that loads on my whole site is the one on the main page, named index.htm, and this page uses the same code to link the pic, whats the problem here?

I.am

I am guessing you have other page in a different folder? If you have a sub-directory in the root then you have to "..\" to go back to the main directory. You have to know the directory structure for all this.

..\images\GT4.bmp

I still recommend using frontpage for you in the begining. You wont have any problems. Once you know what you are doing then do what you like.

u can sign up at
http://www.geocities.com
they offer 15mb of space
my games site is hosted on it
check out the service
they have a free pagebuilder too

DONT ever use those silly pagebuilders. Always write your own it is easy for you to transfer your site to a new host if you later plan. Those guides are useful for beginners. As an experienced webprogrammer i can very well verify that.
People who know html its obviously useless.
Its dumb to write the whole code in notepad. You can only come up with a plain simple colorful page if thats what you want.
Coding in notepad takes time. No advanced webdesigner does that. If you need a quick page then only we use notepad just to feed up a javascript or something small.

Thanks to Dreamweaver MX and Frontpage life has been easier ever since.
